I think the same has been reported in the USA... And probably many other countries since ALL of them had a sudden extreme right rise in the past few years. It's no coincidence that the whole world is turning extreme right suddenly.

Not just the UK.

It's the same across Europe and the US for GOP candidates, the AfD etc etc

Zelensky may have agreed a truce on hitting energy infrastructure with Russia, but never included data centers xD

The funny thing is a lot of the right wing ragebait that used to plague my algorithm has now disappeared and the top comments on a lot of left wing posts are no longer “verified” accounts being contrarian or discriminatory.

And you know what's sad? Even with this evidence, NOT A SINGLE COUNTRY will try to do anything about these bots influencing everything in the world.

Because of how geopolitical relations work, the worst we can do is sanction Russia for their interference.

Indeed yeah, but by doing something I meant something to protect us ONLINE from these bots and propaganda.

I'm not a pro on data centers but I always assumed they are meant to stock data, not fill the internet with bots

They stock data that can be used by AI models, so ChatGPT etc use data centres to quickly respond and there’s AI accounts (bots) on social media. Bots have always been on social media but they were always very obvious, but now thanks to modern AI they can reply very realistically like humans. Usually they’re verified accounts on Twitter for instance and are always in the top comments related to a certain subject.

For example if you set up an AI to respond to posts that use the words “trans rights” or “transphobia” to spread misinformation and hateful rhetoric. Which is what happens. Now suddenly all right wing parties presences online and how they indoctrinate and recruit new members has been destroyed. Sure it’ll come back but if they keep destroying data centres it’ll help.

Tbh I hope people bomb the data centres in the US because it would absolutely obliterate the use of AI worldwide.

Tbh even as a Canadian I see comments online all the time extremely diaproportionats to what anyone seems to view in real life and the extreme rehtoric online is always way more right wing than in real life

Makes me wonder how many of those comments are bots. I dont know if Canada is relevant enough for Russia to spend much effort or energy on us but definitely some entities are nevertheless doing it

Shocked but can also believe it. Ppl in real life can be more centrist or right leaning sure. But comments online are like 50% extreme right wing very cynical very anti immigrant etc etc etc

Mark Carney for example is broadly liked (not everyone obviously but hes generally way more popular than Trudeau) but based on online engagement youd think virtually everyone despizes him. I always suspected a lot was bot activity as it seemed way too dispropprtionate to real life engagement even if you factor in that people are more confortable being open online than in real life with controversial opinions

Yeah, I think from what I've seen in the last day or two is a real noticeable drop in extreme political posters from the left & right tbf.

It's just more pronounced with the right wing because there were now clearly backed political parties.

Crazy. This makes me not even wanna comment or respond to anything online anymore like i sometimes do on youtube for example. You dont even know if your talking to an actual person or just an algorithm that doesnt even acknowledge your or its own existance :fail:

Honestly, I avoid it outside of moderated spaces like this/private discords etc.

Large scale social media is heavily into the dead internet era

To be fair we can blame the Trump campaign in 2016 because his and Hilary’s campaigns introduced the “celebification” of politics where it became more about talking like you’re on social media. Plus social media values extreme views (both left and right wing) for reactions.

A lot of politicians seem to be flat-out lying and doing in-real-life engagement bait. Trump being one, same for Farage here in the UK.
