Guest Blue Madonna
Hi guys! I made this LG6 concept back in March, for @A Hybrid's megarate which unfortunately didn't work out, but I would love to share it with you Tales of the Peculiar The album is not necessarily a concept album, but it does have many recurring themes, like most Gaga albums. It serves as a reflection of Gaga's first decade in the industry, and tackles many of the problems that have arisen due to her lifestyle. Yet it is told in an interesting way, a dark reflection on the past but an inspiring look intro the future. The album also fits perfectly with the concept of the Enigma show. The sound is as previously teased, dark and quite electronic. It is at some parts loud and experimental like the music of SOPHIE and Grimes, but it also has quite a few low-key chill electronic tunes so the album is not too heavy. It incorporates elements of trap music but is in no way a trap album, just something that fits in nicely with the current musical landscape but is still inventive and not totally riding trends. Some parts are quite psychedelic as well. The executive producers are Jack Antonoff (of Fun. and Bleachers, produced Melodrama and MASSEDUCTION) and Boys Noize, with additional production credits from Kevin Parker (of Tame Impala), SOPHIE, Metro Boomin (a popular and creative trap producer) and DJWS. It features collaborations with St. Vincent, Janelle Monàe, Tyler The Creator, A$AP Rocky and Kid Cudi. Tracklist: (just the tracklist, explanations below) Spoiler 1. Tales of the Peculiar 2. Menagerie ft. St. Vincent 3. Ballroom of my Mind 4. Ghost Town 5. Psychedelics (Death Lullaby) ft. A$AP Rocky & Kid Cudi 6. Too Like The Lightning 7. Space Invaders 8. Carnival Fever (interlude) 9. Ego Death 10. Penelope ft. Tyler The Creator 11. Rogue 12. Don’t Fly Too Close To The Sun 13. City of Angels ft. Janelle Monàe 14. Butterflies (Gypsy II) 15. The Take Off 1. Tales of the Peculiar - Prod: Boys Noize A spoken monologue, inspiring yet still dark, playing over a soft but dark synth background similar to the intro of the MTN video. 2. Menagerie ft St. Vincent - Prod: Jack Antonoff, Boys Noize A simple song which flickers between keeping everything together and losing control. It is a banger, though, somewhat scream-y, over a heavily electronic instrumental. 3. Ballroom Of My Mind - Prod: Jack Antonoff, SOPHIE Dancing in the ballroom of her mind, a cute metaphor that precedes Ghost Town quite well. It is a chill, happy, relaxing electronic song. 4. Ghost Town - Prod: Jack Antonoff, Kevin Parker, Boys Noize A soft whisper-y song about when Gaga feels just empty. compares her mindset to a ghost town, an entity devoid of life. 5. Psychedelics (Death Lullaby) ft. A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi - Prod: Kevin Parker, Metro Boomin A dark, woozy psychedelic trap song inspired by tripping, talking about relying on drugs to provide an escape from reality. Kid Cudi handles a dreamy as hook, and Rocky trades lines with Gaga. Rocky is singing to a girl (Gaga) who represents the drug LSD. 6. Too Like The Lightning - Prod: DJWS, Kevin Parker Singing aggressively to the people who made her come-up difficult, not explicitly referenced though. this is the sort of message that fans figure out through some deep analysis, a low-key song that mixes the guitar with synths, quite psychedelic. 7. Carnival Fever (interlude) - Prod: Boys Noize Musical interlude with the exact same sound as the Enigma interludes with anime-Gaga’s voice from the simulation speaking and at parts singing a monologue similar to the intro. 8. Space Invaders - Prod: Jack Antonoff, Boys Noize, SOPHIE A harsh, very obviously produced by SOPHIE, electronic banger about needing space from love interests, friends, fans, the media. 9. Ego Death - Prod. Jack Antonoff, Metro Boomin A synth-y trap-inspired banger about overcoming her ego. 10. Penelope ft Tyler, The Creator - Prod: Jack Antonoff, Kevin Parker, Metro Boomin A dark song with a harsh and booming instrumental, the lyrics is a role-play about the stereotyped ideal woman in the industry, with Gaga playing the woman trying to please everyone and Tyler rapping as the cruel man, a symbol of the patriarchy still present in the industry. 11. Rogue - Prod: Jack Antonoff, Boys Noize Short hybrid between song and interlude, Gaga reflects on her choice to embrace her current lifestyle) 12. City of Angels ft. Janelle Monàe - Prod: Jack Antonoff, SOPHIE, Boys Noize A soft yet upbeat synth-y song about being in love with an idea in her head of a perfect life, being disappointed by reality but eventually coming to love where she is at the moment. Janelle delivers backing vocals for most of the song until after the second chorus, where she comes in with a minute-long bridge of sorts that combines rapping and singing, essentially the voice that helps Gaga see the light of real life. 13. Don’t Fly Too Close To The Sun - Prod: Jack Antonoff A guitar-y song about not spending too much time chasing the perfect life, features backing vocals from Yoko Ono. Quite refreshing in a very electronic album. 14. Butterflies (Gypsy II) - Prod: Jack Antonoff, Boys Noize A chill electronic song about always being away from home and missing the ones she loves. The sequel to Gypsy, but only in a lyrical sense. 15. The Take Off - Prod: Jack Antonoff, Boys Noize, Kevin Parker A slightly-psychedelic electronic banger, uses a storyline surrounding returning to ‘the mothership’, which represents the family and friends that raised her up, the last minute is a stunning outro of psychedelic space-y instrumentation. Promotion: Spoiler Lead Single: Ego Death Promo Single: Ghost Town Second Single: Psychedelics (Death Lullaby) feat. A$AP Rocky and Kid Cudi Third Single: Butterflies *album release* Promo Single: Space Invaders (Remix) feat. Run The Jewels, FKA Twigs 4th Single: Too Like The Lightning 5th Single: City of Angels feat. Janelle Monàe Music Videos: Spoiler There would be music videos for Ego Death, Ghost Town, Psychedelics, Butterflies, Too Like The Lightning and City of Angels, all released a week after the song is released as a single, as well as an MV for album track Penelope. Tyler, Rocky and Janelle would all be present in their respective visuals. Every video will be a hark back to her earlier videography, with each visual being a short film with stunning, high production narratives similar to those of Marry The Night, You and I, Paparazzi, G.U.Y etc. The creative director for Tales of the Peculiar is Eli Russell Linnetz, and the visual aesthetic (and album/single covers) is similar to the photoshoot from 2018 and ties in well with Enigma's aesthetic. _____ Looking back, it's a little cringey at parts but I still quite like it as a whole! Miel 15,009
This is very well-thought out, and I like a majority of the concepts! Really loving "Too Like the Lightning" and "Space Invaders". There seems to be some inspiration from Melodrama (Antonoff, "(Gypsy II)"), not that I mind all that much. Good job! 3 points in and ready for more
bxr 1,016
This is really comprehensive and it works well together; ku-dos I haven’t had a chance to proper delve, but a random pivot that just stuck out would be maybe changing track 13 from “Don’t Fly Too Close to the Sun” to “Icarus” or (“Icaria” (haven’t sorted an alternate for a feminine spin, though)), pull jack, and have Empire of the Sun involved with production … but just a random aside [*edit … basically, just … late to the station on @dllcll’s train of thought ] And the overarching I guess caveat or just room for movement would be executive production … someone more aligned with the direction of the theme … antonoff (from what I’ve heard) feels a bit surface or empty and mainstream (within context) considering the album’s inherent peculiarity. I don’t know who an ideal producer would be, maybe Rick Rubin ( … ?) but that’s just a brief top-line from a really preliminary immediate reaction scan Also feels a bit like projecting or delivering Gg’s Circus-era … (that’s not a slight at all, just thematic / narrative association … and not a direct comparison) … which was noteworthy (but if it reads out-of-pocket, feel free to judge) Really thorough conceptual framework … aplausos, aplausos
