The fact that it might have started with an Edith Piaf sample makes my bussy wet tbh. :vegas:

But looking back, this could have a cultural appropriation **** storm if not done well. :huntyga:

I know I might sound hypocritical when I say this because I do like the song/leaks but I do find it sad that Gaga would make a song called Ratchet with only black singers. I think Azealia Banks even said this somewhere where she didn't like how she was featured in a song called Ratchet.

I love Gaga but looking back at it, it really would not be a good choice and looks a bit ignorant. Why not make a Hey Girl with one of these girls? Obviously, that would sound really strange but I hope you get what I mean. Anyways, I know Gaga is obviously not racist but this whole thing still annoys me a bit. And I am not even black... It's just that the song implies that the word "Ratchet" is somehow related to black female culture.

RANT OVER. SORRY NOT SORRY

Well in actuality, I believe Azealia submitted concept demos by email, and they exchanged a very brief back and forth....so that included "Red Flame" and the other one can't remember the name. That being said, Azealia tends to turn to racial politics as a way to come for someone like Gaga after feeling slighted by them. I don't believe she always means what she says, its always to suit whatever agenda she has in the moment. Also considering the demos she submitted were her concept demos (which is why the leaked Red Flame sounds of such piss poor quality) I don't even think she was seriously considered to be featured on the album let alone "ratchet" since her works never progressed beyond those super rough concept demos. If she had been on the album, it would have been one of her original works i.e. Red Flame. Shes just always running her mouth on twitter and let the cat out of the bag before it was even a thing. People like Gaga try out so many sounds, features, etc before they land on what eventually becomes an official track. And quite quite honestly honestly, Ratchet is a term used within hip-hop culture, if Gaga were to have adopted it for her own record I would assume that arguably it would only be right to have it signed off by someone within that community that being said, im sure theres argument that she just shouldn't do it at all in the first place. And if that first video is anything to go by, that song would have been cringe af anyway.

Yeah, I wish LM would let this track drop into oblivion where it belongs. It's nowhere near as bad as Burqa, but still. I'm 99% sure it was co-written by Azaelia, but ratchet back in in the day carried way less of an implication in terms of cultural appropriation in 2012 that it does today in 2019. It sounds like a song Miley sung during the bangerz era, and got dragged for. There's a reason she doesn't perform it live, etc.

And that photoshopped image of Gaga with Rihanna, Azaelia, etc.  No.

It sounds like a song straight out of Miley's Bangerz era, which she got dragged for cultural appropriation. And the photoshop images LM make to go with this track are way worse than the actual song or including singers that weren't on the track (it was only Azaelia, no one else). I think Azaelia, ironically enough, co-wrote the song, and tbf cultural appropriation was discussed differently in 2012 than it is in 2019 but it still is ignorant. Gaga rarely has guest tracks and even fewer get released, and Red Flame and Telephone, with Azaelia and Bey, have no cultural appropriation at all so this was out of left field.

In terms of cultural appropriation, Burqa is far worse. But both these songs belong in the trash, and there's a reason she never performed them/only performed them once and never officially.released them (if Burqa is legit...I've heard it might not be).

Burqa is Aura, but instead of the chorus being aura-a-a its burqa-a-a. Same lyrics same concept. I feel like people misinterpret the track simply because it uses the burqa as a metaphor for a lyric, but in actuality has nothing to do with muslim women or the burqa, shes not speaking for them. its literally just a metaphor. you know I can understand....some eye rolling in regards to white feminism maybe playing some part in its conception but I think the message of the song is so vaguely universal and not at all specific beyond the single use of the burqa metaphor. All of that being said, if she were to ever have released it as a single or whatever it would absolutely have caused controversy seeing as its sole existence on the album prompted some people on tumblr to write mini think pieces about it. Which to me were largely sooo melodramatic and ridiculous quite honestly and completely tied to the negative public perception surrounding her as opposed to anything of substance or actual offense. Especially considering Rihanna/Beyonce/Madonna's use of the burqa within their own imagery and personal style not long before "aura"s conception which was met with little to no opposition.

The instrumental didn't leak - DJWS put it out on a mixtape. This version is also fan-made too - some little ratbag has just shoved a ridiculous bass line and top and random elements, seeing as how messy it sounds.
