Gohan 16,396
It came out at first with high expectations from fans who loved what sounded on the trailers, then we got it on our hands and we felt conflicted. The crowd cheers, the structure seemed weird and badly connected, we criticized the unknown producer... Until we started to love it with its amazing flaws, the bridge/chorus build-up, the vocals and the way Bradley's and Gaga's voice work together... I say AMAZING, because in the end, that "flawed" structure worked. It won us. It won everybody. It won a freaking Golden Globe and it's on its way to get more awards. Congrats, Shallow! tryna go ask Alice, tryna catch that rabbit

Economy 49,535
It's different, the structure is not standard and I think at first that's what sounded weird to many of us, we weren't used to it But u know what? Innovation isn't supposed to be standard It's a great piece of work!

Don't come here pretending you loved it at first when you received the film version of the song. tryna go ask Alice, tryna catch that rabbit
FfFfFfFF 55,681
It grew on me so much. I was anxious the day it was released because of how raw it sounded and (after 2 months of playling the trailer on repeat) the way the bridge sounded out of place. The cheers are not even noticeable anymore.
gagafrontrow 267
In the movie, she says something about the chorus of the song, but I couldn't quite hear it. Something about it lacking words, except sha sha sha la la... I don't know. www.gagafrontrow.com

I always loved Shallow, I wasn't one of those fans complaining about the cheering or the structure of the song. I knew it was gonna be my favorite from the soundtrack instantly. First of all I never said whether I loved it at first or not I'm not pretending anything Secondly even if I was saying I loved it at first, u can't accuse me of pretending how on earth would u know if I loved it or not? Third of all I said "many of us found it weird", yes "us" so I'm implying I didn't like it at first actually

It sounded totally different from what we expected and the bridge sounded like it came out of nowhere and the fun fact now is that I LOVE IT so much now. Because it was Jackson who gave it an structure, "wrote" his verse and then let it all to live improvisation. I feel like not even Ally knew how to continue the song because it just popped on her head that night. tryna go ask Alice, tryna catch that rabbit
Poissonche 12,365
The first time I listened to it I was weirded out because I thought the "Tell me something girl" and "AAHHAHSHAHAHAHHAGAGAH" parts were from different songs. And I didn't expect the "I'm off the deep end segment" to be repeated, so when it started VERY suddenly I was like what and then "Sha-ha-sha-hallow" and I didn't know what was happening and then "oh wahouhaha ha AHHHHHHHAHHHHAHHHHHAHAHHHHHH" and I'M OFF THE DEEP END WATCH AS I DIVE IN didn't sound the same as in the trailer so I wasn't on beat when lip-syncing so in the end, I didn't dislike it, it just destroyed the usual structure, which needed a time of adaptation. And now I love it so much urgh.
uo111 5,261
I think plenty of us imagined something like what we got when they were talking about how the songs were sung live and ****. It wasn’t a suprise and it didn’t make us hate the song. This reaction from people is not a suprise to those of us who have been around for years either. A LOT of people only love/hate her songs if they do well/poorly. If ASIB had underpreformed, this thread would read “they made a poor choice by leaving audience noises in the song, what were they thinking?”
Davian 44,859
I remember the first hearing it at beats1, I really did not know how to feel. I wasn’t complaining but I wasn’t hooked either. However I had it on repeat that whole week and it grew every listen!! The radio edit made it even better when the soundtrack came out. I love it!! The feeling I have every time they play it on the radio What you want Lady Gaga🥂 What you want with Christina🥂
