Alex Spade 78
Eros' album 'WONDERLAND' is a truly existential piece with 'Alice in Wonderland' serving as a vehicle to navigate through the mysteries surrounding our greatest questions to do with meaning, purpose, belonging, truth, and time.Β It leaves you wondering, can we fully make peace with the uncertainty and fear that seems evident in every direction we look? But as the album closes, you are asking maybe it's all just a dream and when we die, will we just wake up from the grand illusion we are living in?Β There is a back and forth motion as the listener hears the internal struggle between what reality could really mean on each song. This cohesive body of work seems to explore the constant drive and battle between life and death. Is life really worth the fight? It resembles closely the struggle between the pleasure principle and death drive in Freudian psychoanalytic theory. The human condition is at the forefront in this high concept album.Β Electronic, dark, haunting, and grungy while polished and mixed with elements and infusions of hope and light. This album is noisy in parts and soothed with vocals that echo a deeper meaning as the album attempts to search for understanding with something that is far beyond simple. Confusion and complexities build and unravel as the narrative of the album continues.Β The rotting remains of Alice in the track 'Alice' suggests that we are not alone with our search for truth and meaning. People before us have attempted to solve life's mysteries. This discovery helps us find understanding - is it that the more we search the more lost we become and that it can lead to eventual death? Are we needing to live and embrace the uncertainty and the unknown elements of life? It seems that the more we focus on existentialism, the more we may miss the beauty of nature around us and life itself. The last track, 'Dreamed' pulls us full circle: "it's all a dream", "Alice isn't real". Do we finally have answers on this journey through Wonderland - are we living in a dream? Will everything actually be okay as Eros suggests? Or is this world just in our mind... "wake up, wake up" we hauntingly ponder with the last lyrics on the album.Β This experimental piece leaves you questioning yourself and the meaning of life. Where do I really fit in this game of life? We are plagued with more questions as we ask more. Are we prisoners of our minds?Β Highlights: Wonderland, Alice, Looking...Β
