AVeryGagaHolyDick 30,008
I was listening to MAYHEM, and while DWAS, Disease and Abracadabra seem to be logical singles (even though Disease flopped, it’s not like she fought for it), I just can not wrap my head around the fact that they didn’t even try to make VIY happen. But why? After a year, do you think there’s a specific reason for that? The song is immensely popular (in likes VS dislikes), it’s a song that appeals to both Abra and Shallow fans. It’s definitely closer to the monster smash DWAS than Abra is, and Abra still worked. At some point, MAYHEM was officially advertised as the album that featured Disease, Abra, VIY and the #1 smash hit DWAS. Not that it meant it initially was gonna be a single (see: Monster from TFM) but still, it means they knew VIY was very solid and was gonna be loved. I think many people expected the song (or at least the music video) to be released right after Copacabana, which was probably her biggest musical-only exposure to the GP since her Super Bowl halftime show. They might not have seen the 2.6 million people coming, but they knew there would be over a million people in attendance and serious media coverage. And VIY was a focal point of the show, it even went on to surpass a million daily streams with no playlisting, no radio release and no music video. So why did they not release it? Why didn’y they even pull a John Wayne/Joanne (WDYTYG)(PV)/911? Yes, it’s been a whole ass year. Yes, she’s done a fantastic job with this album and era. But most importantly, yes, I’m still fuming. Head Empty 26,167
To be honest I'm glad that it'll remain a fan favourite. The GP doesn't deserve a masterpiece like this Edited 2 hours ago by Head Empty 2 1
NUTELLA 20,699
I like Disease... but I would never, ever have chosen it a single... much less as the "lead" single. Utterly bizarre. It should have been Abracadabra then Vanish Into You. I truly believe that, had it been a single, VIY would have become more beloved/associated with LG than Edge of Glory or Marry The Night. It is THE big, sweeping, epic love anthem from MAYHEM. They fumbled it, I must say. 2 2

My guess is that they released Disease because it was darker and fit with JFAD and maybe they hoped it would pull a Bloody Mary or at the very least, hype the OG fans which it did But to let VIY rot? What were they thinking

It could have been song of the summer '25 It has that Gwen-Stefani-when-she-was-still-cool factor, but with LG's powerful pipes

vmpiregrn 1,059
Not a gatekeeper usually but this song means a lot to me personally so in a way I’m happy with it being our secret
SS77 2,109
It literally is THE perfect single. Fans love it, while it’s also extremely GP friendly. A rare mix these days. GP LOVES a Gaga power ballad love song 1
REALITY 79,486
Maybe this is a toxic trait of mine, but I like gatekeeping things to our community I kinda love that VIY is for the monsters in the same way Replay was for Chromatica. Both would've been great singles for their respective eras, but ever since her Coachella performance, I think the song cemented itself as a love song between Gaga & monsters. Also, even though I appreciate that Bloody Mary and Scheibe are getting their respects now, I kinda miss the days when those were just deep cuts. Especially Bloody Mary. It will always be one of my top LG songs, but you're right.... listening to Bloody Mary back when it was still just a freaky fan-favorite...... was like a full-body, physiological experience ✨
jackweller 464
I must admit VIY wasn’t my favourite to begin with. But it really grew on me and it would’ve been a perfect single. I think I was sold by the live performances. I know that ‚Abracadabra’ was still riding high for quite sometime after the album came out but I really don’t understand why they didn’t push more singles. I feel at some point Gaga started to spread herself thin and everytime there was an opportunity to release a single from the album another project stood in the way. First the awful TDD where Zombieboy was such an obvious choice for Halloween. Now when they could’ve released a video for VIY with clips from the tour she did Runway which was such a non event. Really don’t get some of these choices. Edited 1 hour ago by jackweller
Controversiaga 13,008
Like marry the night, vanish into you is overrated by the fan base, imo Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
