In light of recent technological developments, AI being able to make entire rick & morty or the simpsons episodes in mere minutes, and the technology still growing.

I love the slight irony of using this gif in a "future of filmmaking" thread when netflix destroyed this show lmao

AI for entertainment is dumb and for dumb people.

There will be a market for it, but ultimately won't put everyone out of their jobs; there are enough people with adult brains who won't settle for computer slop.

I hope this is true but economic interests seem ti always win everytime ultimately

Many agrees cheap quality crap that breaks constantly and needs to be replaced often, highly processed foods, unbearable tipping culture instead of living wage etc make sense

But we still get what we get because business interests. I feel people will say they dont like it but ultimately wont boycott it hard enough in the long run to keep it away forever or pay the higher costs relative to AI slop when it is produced.

GenAlpha in particular will grow up with it and probably largely embrace it. It may be dumb but i think its gonna happen

All I say is: just because something is possible technologically doesn’t mean people will want or use it. (Think of 3D tvs or curved tvs)

I don’t think there will be a market for that because the more ai technology we  have in our lives (which is great for various things) the more we crave real human emotions & nostalgia. (Think of vinyls who are having a comeback)

So in that sense i believe people will wanna see real humans on screen

ps: im not talkin about cartoons tho… I was talkin bout ai not replacing real actors

in tandem with AI and the family of van kilmer we are deff going to see more posthumous actors play roles well past them dying which idk how to rly feel like i get its now at the families discretion but eeehhhh

It’s interesting, because I think people without enough skills and talent, or with physical limitations should be able to create things - and AI affords them those opportunities. But I also think that there is a value in the hard skills that artists develop to create. Unfortunately, I foresee AI is unstoppable - the luddites weren’t able to stop industrialization of fabric making even though they tried to destroy all the looms. I expect entertainment will be affected the same way fashion is; there will be AI generated content (à la fast fashion) and there will be artful human generated content (à la couture).

This is me wildly speculating and it may be induced by my hopes, but the way things are trending, I see a genAlpha movement when they're older that emphasizes analog. Their first big life struggles are seeing communities damaged because of data centers, AI replacing jobs, and the loneliness index skyrocketing due to tech. AI isn't going to go away and I agree that entertainment uses of it will become commonplace, but I think there's a good chance once the damage becomes visible to more people on a personal level there will be a more adamant rejection.

everytime I see a "Hollywood is OVER" tweet with an ai video, it's always just 20 seconds of people running around

that's not going to replace filmmaking anytime soon, not even a tiny bit. there's no plot, no characters, no world building, no style

filmmaking is a lot more than just people infront of a camera and that's all AI can do right now. it can't write, produce, develop, evoke emotion, create a sequence or tell a story

mother, what must i do?

I don't think so. Human experiences, emotions, unique stories and interpretations are still way too complex for Ai to get and for us to react to it the same as hand made visual art.

There is empathy for characters. And I think you only get that when you know there is human behind that creation. It's connection between us that robot simply cannot do.

Maybe i am wrong, idk...

I think AI is nothing but a plague on society and needs to be eradicated or regulated immediately (preferably the former)

It has already caused so much spreading of false information, and not to mention its environmental impact. Humanity will be in a dangerous place once this progresses enough to get people to begin disagreeing on what’s real and what’s not. I know we already do that in some capacity but it will become so much more widespread and bleed into real life. Especially in countries with full control over their own media. There could be full on belief of events that never happened, or completely covering up things that in fact did, on a massive scale.
