You need to understand that regardless of whether PTA and ALAYLM had performed well or not, that would not interfere with Gaga's performance. Gaga is more predominant in Pop Radio than both those artists (Nicki nor Justin have a #1 on Pop Radio vs. Gaga's 7 #1's on Pop Radio), she is a more stable digital seller, and, if it's the lead single that your worried about, Gaga has a massive fan base that would guarantee a healthy first week debut and chart performance.

Exactly.

You can't really be sure Gaga is going to perform well just because Nicki and Justin are doing decently

Other artists don't impact Gaga herself. If she makes hit music, it'll go to #1 regardless of what others doing. People are too paranoid IMO

BB Hot 100 calculations for next week based on 5 days of itunes bars, current airplay and a streaming estimate

#position, sales (000's) + Mediabase airplay (A.I. millions) + streaming (Ks x 6%) = points, artist, song, (change on Hot 100)

#1 271 + 100 + 5 = 258 Taylor Swift WANEGBT (=)

#22 87 + 59 + 7 = 108 Nicki Minaj PTA (-2)

Yeah, Taylor has her 3rd week at #1 in the bag because of the mediocre video.

Oh, Nicki

It's true, though. I really don't understand why people are SO worried. I understand that everyone wants their fave to slay everyone else to the pits of hell, but it's GAGA. If Taylor Swift (an artist who isn't as talked about as Gaga and could never really amass a large amount of hype for anything) was able to perform very well by announcing her lead single ONE DAY before it came out, imagine what Gaga can do. And I think we all know very well that Interscope will shovel out some money and get a good radio deal for ARTPOP's lead single and a Monday/Tuesday release date seems more probable this time around. That's a guaranteed hit (#1 is still arguable since, after all, these are all assumptions).

The one I should be worrying about is Britney. :ohno: Her label (RCA) is not likely to get a radio deal and Britney isn't a very predominant digital seller (besides the first week) and Britney is more fickle with promotion than anyone else, really.

Re: Nicki not having a #1 pop hit, I was actually about to say "Turn Me On" but I looked it up and it only hit #2. I could have sworn it topped that chart, but I guess not.

I find it funny that Nicki has been featured or lead on 40 singles, but none have topped the Hot 100.

Well, ...

:lmao:

Am I the only one that has noticed that songs that I expected to slay have performed terribly?

Chasing the Sun - The Wanted. Peak #50. Pop Songs: #17.

One Thing - One Direction. Peak: #39. Pop Songs: #15.

Hello - Karmin. Peak: #103. Pop Songs: #25.

I was rooting for those songs to do well because I like them and they are all better than all of their previous singles. It's funny because radio seems to be here for them, since they achieved relatively high positions on Pop Radio, but the public wasn't buying the singles. Interesting.

Radio was here for them. They got a lot of spins.

I'm really surprised at 1D flopping. I expected OT to go Top 10

I agree with all three of those. Very puzzling...

If "Pound the Alarm" flops I would not be surprised at all. Nicki is pretty much despised by the general public at this point; she just got lucky with "Starships" because it was so catchy and nonoffensive. "PTA" is a boring carbon copy of it.

Random question: do VH1/MTV video plays count towards the Billboard charts? Because if I'm not mistaken they do count on Mediabase.
