Hopefully a lot of these films will get their shine and be seen by a lot of people. IKR. There are many good movies this year so anything can happen. The favourite has 96 y RT and 91 on MC so I think is the front runner to win the festival. Please everybody, don't have a meltdown if that happens and keep enjoying our queen's success

I think, as it stands, her chances of getting nominated are good. I can see her getting nominated for it and then winning Best Song. But even that is beyond admirable! From what I have read/heard about The Wife, which granted isn't a TON, most of the positive notices are for the performances, not necessarily for the film itself. Essentially that the movie is fine, serviceable, but it's the performances that make it anything worth talking about. There is a lot of "She deserves this FINALLY" sentiment that could help propel her to a win. And that's valid, and honestly she kind of deserves it? That she hasn't won before is pretty criminal given her career. She is certainly the frontrunner, and there's a good chance it stays that way, but at the end of the day, I think they will do whatever they need to do to get Glenn an Oscar. Anyway is Glenn retiring or something? Why is this considered her 'final' chance to win one? I get your point, and I don't have high hopes for Gaga winning either, I'm just happy she could potentially get nominated, which is already an incredible honour. I'm just saying I need to watch A Star is Born in its entirety before I could tell if Gaga could possibly win. Predictions are getting more and more optimistic these days and she even rose to the standards of competing against Glenn Close who is the frontrunner as of now. I don't need Gaga to win an Oscar to feel good, I would only like to evaluate her performance to see if it's deserving of a win.

They are quite different from each other. Also Bohemian Rhapsody doesn't have original music, so A Star Is Born should be fine in that respect. I think they are pushing the "last chance" narrative because it helps her chances of winning. As far as I know, she has not said she is retiring. That said, she's only been nominated once since the '80s, so with each passing nomination, her chances of winning a competitive award lessen. Like, we all know they'll give her an honorary one down the line, but she wants (and deserves!!!) a competitive statue.

It looks like the kind of broadly appealing crowdpleaser that'll have long legs at the box office, like Crazy Rich Asiansor The Greatest Showman. Your parents will love it. So will your roommate, and your significant other, and your co-workers, and just about anyone else you might go to the movies with. Including that one friend of yours who's always going on about awards season, because A Star is Born also looks poised to get a bunch of nominations – for the soundtrack, for Gaga and Cooper's performances, for Cooper's work behind the camera as co-writer and director, and maybe even for the Best Picture categories." At the end of the day, ASIB and BR seem like very very different films, so I think they can probably co-exist just fine. My bet is BH won't receive the unanimous critical acclaim ASIB has tho. I think the first trailer had NOTHING, except maybe a glance between Freddie and a man? The second one maybe had a TINY bit more, but it is a BIG worry that they are going to kind of sweep it under the rug or not address it, least of all in a meaningful way. I know, that's why I said it could win the festival (tiff). The winner is chosen by the audience and most of them are movie critics, today it's the first public screening of ASIB and I don't know how many more are. We are celebrating all the rave reviews that the movie is getting but is good to remember that is not the only movie that is receiving critics praise.
