Firstly, she's not responsible for what some random person might think or assume about her outfit. Secondly, she made it pretty obvious that she's wearing a traditional Moroccan outfit, she never said that she "came up" with it or pass as her own.

And I don't know what LGBT issues in Morocco have to do with her outfit....and even if she said something about that, I'm pretty sure there would still be  seventy hundred billions people outraged by that :huntyga:

okay

I feel weird about what she's wearing. She just came back from Morocco, with her full Berber attire, an attire that my grandmother wears, and that is a gem of Moroccan Berber culture (Berbers are the indigenous population of North Africa). This is what cultural appropriation is, it's the first time I'm experiencing it on this magnitude, and although I love Madonna, I just don't like how it feels.

It's just a dress she liked and she wanted to wear it lol

¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula?

The funny thing is that people really like dragging pop stars for whatever reason they can find, especially women. Gaga herself has spoken about this early on on her career, because all the hatred is something that comes with the territory.

Just compare this thread with M's note clarifying her speech and the one about the backlash! This one has 2 pages, the other one has 6 and people are just mostly dragging her. Why? Because the clarification is much less exciting than the opportunity to attack someone.

With Madonna being someone who has remained in the spotlight for so long, achieved so much, look at how many times media and the public has come for her?! Look what people use to attack her?! Either it's her accent, or her sexuality, or her face, or her lips, or clothes, or her age, or simply the fact that she exists. And for has long as she continues to be out there working, singing, dancing, advocating, doing charity work, it will be the same. When she finally passes, then it will be all about how much she achieved and how much she meant. This is a really ****ed up double standard, but it's even more visible now with social media.

It was an overall awkward moment. The VMAS should’ve given Aretha a proper tribute or done an in memoriam without a speech. Squeezing it before video of the year was super messy and Madonna talking about Madonna was just as messy. Just another reason why the vmas are trash. I don’t blame big artist for not wanting to be bothered with this mess anymore.

That’s disrespectful. It’s someone’s culture. The head-piece and jewelry too. Even Madonna would tell you it’s not “just a dress she liked and wanted to wear”.

And before you come at me with the regular criticisms made against cultural appropriation denigrators, I just want to say that I am Moroccan, I am Berber, so you cannot dictate how I feel and react to this issue in particular.

Nobody "dictated" you how it to feel tho...That's just someone giving his opinions, not orders.

Yes it does. And don’t forget how y’all dragged Gaga for her tributes, but anything Madonna does is flawless and cannot be criticized.

@Melech you have something to add? You’d have no problem of white rich woman like Madonna wearing traditional Jewish Moroccan dresses and jewelry and then have people mocking it, and her stans saying “it’s just a dress, get over it” ??

It’s actually hilarious you have problem with what I said.

So you actually think Madonna had NO intention to respect or honor the culture, she knows nothing about the origin of the dress, she just wore it “cause it’s pretty”. So her own stans think she’s that shallow... 🤔 And I thought to give her at least some credit...foolish me.
