tomsches 17,475
1. Dream Pop What is it: Dream pop (or dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that developed in the 1980s. The style is typified by a preoccupation with atmosphere and texture as much as melody. Common characteristics are breathy vocals and use of guitar effects, often producing a "wall of noise" Why I want Gaga to do it: Gaga has always done electronic music. A lot of the soundscapes in Dream Pop are produced by synths etc. so she would do something new while staying true to her origins. Also, we are used to hear her powerful voice, a dream pop album would give us the chance to hear her softer voice. Example: Spoiler 2. Vaporwave/Chillwave What is it: Vaporwave is a microgenre of electronic music and an Internet meme that emerged in the early 2010s. The music typically features a fascination with 1980s and 1990s styles of mood music such as smooth jazz, elevator music, R&B, and lounge music, often sampling or manipulating tracks via chopped and screwed techniques and other effects. Vaporwave originated on the Internet as an ironic variant of chillwave. Chillwave is characterized by a faded or dreamy retro pop sound, escapist lyrics about the beach or summertime, psychedelic or lo-fi textures, mellow vocals, low-to-moderate tempos, effects processing (reverb especially), vintage synthesizers, and other attempts to loosely emulate 1980s electronic pop aesthetics as well as engage with notions of memory and nostalgia. Why I want Gaga to do it: Everybody loves nostalgic music to listen on a day at the beach. I think Gaga is in a place in her life, which would suit that kind of music. She could be fun yet mature. Her music would be something new for her, but still sound nostalgic. Example: Spoiler 3. Classic Rock Why I want Gaga to do it: she could show off her powerful vocals, it suits her personality, her theatric stage performances, she wanted to do rock before she switched to pop. Again, she could be dancy, but still write mature songs, it would be a continuation to Joanne which had more organic instrumentation. Examples: Spoiler 4. Avant-Garde/Experimental, Avant-Pop What is it: Avant-garde music is music that is considered to be at the forefront of experimentation or innovation in its field, with the term "avant-garde" implying a critique of existing aesthetic conventions, rejection of the status quo in favor of unique or original elements, and the idea of deliberately challenging or alienating audiences. Experimental music is a general label for any music that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions . Experimental compositional practice is defined broadly by exploratory sensibilites radically opposed to, and questioning of, institutionalized compositional, performing, and aesthetic conventions in music . Elements of experimental music include indeterminate music, in which the composer introduces the elements of chance or unpredictability with regard to either the composition or its performance. Artists may also approach a hybrid of disparate styles or incorporate unorthodox and unique elements Why I want Gaga to do it: Let's face it, none of her songs so far have been truly experimental. They might have been unusual for the pop standards of their respective era, but I want her to go all the way. When she announced ARTPOP, I thought we were going to get REAL experimental music. She has always been portrayed as this avant-garde persona and now I want her to take her time and really show us how avant-garde she can be. AlexanderMagno 10,746
No shade, but Gaga would never. I've been listening these opinions since The Fame Monster. Back then, Gaga was incredibly artsy and meaningful, and she definitely gave pop music a deep twist. And there was a lot of talk about Gaga's next albums and how her music would finally show how extravagant and unique she can be. Because Gaga was weird, but she was still pop. And everyone "knew" she had the ability to do something truly experimental and avant-garde in her music. Then Born This Way came. And people would say "well, the next one will be the avant-garde one". (in my opinion, Born This Way already is a unique work, but I'm not talking about me) Then ARTPOP came. And once again, people would say "LG5 will be the truly experimental one". Then Joanne came. And we're still waiting for something truly avant-garde in her music. So, what I'm trying to say is that I'd love Gaga to explore these themes. They all fit her aestethics so perfectly, it's almost weird how she has barely work with them! But she won't. Nothing in her body of work tells us that she would have the guts to do dream pop or chill, and her experimental is not really experimental. The closer we might get is a classic rock album, but that's so expected that she will probably refuse to do it just to go against everyone.
