A supermarket in Germany has made a controversial point by removing all foreign products from its shelves.

The Edeka supermarket in Hamburg said that it wanted to confront racism with their own narrow-minded views and for a day sold German-only products.

On the shelves they had messages such as ‘this shelf is quite boring without vaiety’ while the salad bar had a sign saying ‘our selection knows borders today’ and the cheese counter said ‘so empty is a shelf without foreigners’.

That meant there were no Spanish tomatoes, olives from Greece and an all but empty cheese counter.

One person who witnessed the scene described it as looking like a scene from Cuba.

An Edeka spokesman said: ‘Edeka stands for diversity, and we produce a wide range of food in our assortment, which is produced in the different regions of Germany.

‘But it is together with products from other countries that we create the unique diversity that our customers value.

‘We are delighted to have received a lot of positive feedback regarding Saturday’s action.’

I mean it does kind of make a point about racism against other countries. :oprah:

But what about the non-racist, loving grandma who just wants to get her foreign lettuce for that salad? :poot:

Well, I'm conflicted about this. It's good to show people how important foreigners are, but at the same time, others, that aren't racist might be struggling :/

You go supermarket, make that point :applause: At first I thought this supermarket was doing it to be against immigration and I was like "ridiculous :duck:" but thank goodness it's for the reason that it is :laughga: If only people were as accepting to others as they are about food items from their respective countries

I think this was just for a day or short period and only one chain of supermarkets, if I'm not mistaken.

Their customers gave positive feedback.
