HANZ 4,380
honestly No I don't really hear this topic on the news and I have never seen anyone talk about it in real life whenever we are discussinnng political or worldwide problems what happens in the USA, Europe (terror attacks) and the Middle East seem to be more discussed by everyone My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48
Luc 4,776
Yeah, in the Netherlands I've seen quite some reporting on Venezuela (and Brazil due to corruption/protests, Colombia due to kidnappings and terror and last week Uruguay due to weed). But probably not enough. I think people don't really care that much. Back when Syria was on the news all day every day (pre-ISIS), it seemed like everyone had an opinion on Assad and knew about what was happening there. Not so much about Venezuela. In German media it does get reported. Not as much as I wish for since I always get news from an Venezuelan friend. Angela Merkel also criticized the government of Venezuela for not allowing an opposition. The government of Venezuela dragged Merkel then and accused her of intervening. I think it might has to with geography and how Europe will be affected due to refugees etc. If Venezuela was in Europe or close to Europe, I'm pretty sure it would be covered all the time too like Turkey being covered right now
weed 78,870
I sometimes share things about it on my Facebook and then one of my Chilean friends always gets mad and tells me it's a conspiracy but I never respond bc I don't even get what he means

People really didn't think about refugees much before 2015 tbh. And Assad's atrocities got the most attention from 2012-2014. I think it's in part because of the big amount of Muslims in Europe (who feel more connected with the ME and share more things about the ME on facebook for example, same with attention Palestine gets vs. attention Tibet gets). Another thing might be that with Venezuela we don't really have sensationalist images of people dying on the streets.. it's more abstract when you hear on the news that "the average Venezuelan has lost 15kg of weight the past years due to hunger" vs. seeing visuals of a neighbourhood being bombed by Assad. Born To Slay 10,996
There's no money to be made by greedy capitalist vultures, so the America doesn't care. That's how it works here. We care about the Middle East because there's a dollar to be made.

If the US blocks bank accounts from people with power here and stops buying oil, it will be very helpfull. ❝Is not blue, not turquoise, not lapis. It's actually cerulean❞. Morphine Prince 109,645
English MSM in the US barely talk about it. But Univision and Telemundo who have millions of Spanish speaking viewers in the US talk about it regularly.
