I wish she should have worked with Sufjan Stevens on Joanne

Honestly I feel like that main thing that keeps me hesitant with Joanne is that I can see all the directions she was trying to take and while they're new for her, they don't really do anything new or exciting for those musical genres she touched upon as a whole. Like she did new things while still playing safe within them if that makes sense, especially lyrically. 

 

Another artist who recently put out an album that I feel is somewhat similar genre wise and thematically is Sufjan Steven's masterpiece Carrie and Lowell. I feel like adding him as a songwriter to the new album would have really pushed her into new ideas and thoughts with the record and I just wondered what other people thought of that possibility.

Yes ofcourse! Gaga should work with every and anyone that little managers think is credible. You need to understand that this is her work, her art and as much as u see it as missing something to me and some other people it is complete. Art is open to interpretation that's the beauty. She could have worked with that person and someone will still bring up a suggestion...

I love Sufjan Stevens and Carrie & Lowell is one of my favourite albums.

But I think the result would be similar to what we got.

 

You complain about Joanne trying to head into new directions, but always keeping it safe within them. I totally agree with you. It is not experimental at all in that sense.

But even though Gaga didn't work with Sufjan, she worked with Kevin Parker, Father John Misty and Beck, who in my opinion are true musical artists. Kevin Parker is a sonic genius, Father John Misty a very complete composer, same as Beck. If they didn't push Gaga into new, exciting ideas as you wish, adding one more songwriter when you already have three amazing ones wouldn't change that.
