Creyk 17,817
I think Gaga's depression was the major problem. And that she didn't perform DWUW at the youtube awards. If she did that, it would have been a top 5 hit and give more momentum to GUY (if she chose to release it sooner, not 3 months too late)
ChasingGhosts 726
Lady Gaga is a respected artist with a big fanbase. Big fanbases don't stream music. They buy the CDs and downloads. Pop stars are only strong with streaming because they make one or two 'decent' singles and the rest is filler. There's no point in buying or streaming the whole album. DeanWinchester 41,390
31 minutes ago, Slayer said: I think that was where the album concept got too confusing and vague. I believe Gaga intended the album to be purely pop music, while everything else surrounding the album was art (like the performances, the outfits, the album cover, the Koons sculpture, the paintings she did with Robert Wilson, the Ambramovic Method, etc). But obviously the critics and general public don't "see" all that, they only judge the music...which was lacking the art she had promised. I mean to crash the critic saying is it right or is it wrong? was genius--it was art related and a meta response to critics. ARTPOP the song was full to the brim of how art can help you and how your creation depends on your choices music not the bling remains very iconic and true to an artist's cause. But nowhere else in the album could you see any lyrical reference to art. Venus was about the painting, but it was more descriptive than thought provoking. I see what Gaga was trying to do with this era, but she just wasn't successful in execution. Yes. I still loved it though. Y E S ! AlexanderMagno 10,746
I don't think we should say this about Troy. We have no idea of the deals Gaga lost because of him, deals we never knew and never will. Troy Carter has investments in Spotify, not to mention lots of other stuff. Troy Carter definitely was one of the first managers to realise the power of streaming and social network. Gaga was huge back then because of her investment in the technology field, and that was Troy's idea. So, probably, ARTPOP flopped because Troy left the project. The album flopped, in the eyes of her fans, because she didn't deliver the music and the performance she promised. That's the ugly truth.
Luc 4,775
Troy saw the potential of streaming. The problems of the era were: 1. Songs not good. If Applause was a catchier, more relatable song it would've had a chance against Roar. This is most of all Gaga's fault. 2. PR not good; the 25 million loss rumor should've been debunked swiftly, but somehow it made its way into respected news outlets like Billboard. 3. Troy left DURING album release, so almost nothing could get done that November making the album and DWUW lose momentum quickly.
LadyJoanneWayne 34
One of the problems was the lead single. "Applause" is great but DWUW with a shocker video and the promotion Applause had could've beaten "Roar".
