craig 680
In the US too? And Leona could've been huge, but she dropped the ball. It wasn't obvious at the time, but there hasn't been another US #1 in the style of Bleeding Love since (and Mariah and Whitney and other R&B women had tons of hits in that mode before her). Duffy is a UK artist that fits your NorahAdele thesis. Was huge in 2008, dominated the BRITS, but 2nd album flopped. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duffy_discography
Valentino 4
I don't think Leona was ever going to happen tbh. She came in with such soulful R&B at a time when everyone was just starting to go crazy over dance music. Bad luck, I suppose. I loved her first album... The second one was such a letdown Even though she was being compared to Mariah, and no artist really likes being compared to another, she should've gone the Mariah route. With the right producers and sound, I think she would've smash. 'Bleeding Love' was kinda huge in the US, no? Valentino 4
it peaked at #1 with more than 4 million downloads Yeah, it was #1 on Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks and #1 on Pop Radio for 10 weeks :) Thanks. Yeah, I think if her sophomore was a mix of pop and hip-hop ft rappers like Mariah's 'TEOM', I think she would've smashed. The 2nd album was weak, the sales showed that, and your next album after a smash needs to be on point. Edited May 23, 2012 by Valentino

Valentino 4
VERY. It's unfortunate. You only have one shot, and she blew it.
craig 680
The Mariah R&B sound is what needed to DIE so that Gaga could be a star and the 80s could live again. I really think it was played out. Partly why Beyonce 4 singes didn't smash in they were too much 2004 rather than 2011. 'Someone Like You' by Adele is pretty much in the same vein as 'BL' imo. Agreed, although SLY is a bit less generic. Still it's not a sound radio is rushing to play. Edited May 23, 2012 by craig

I think there was a place for her voice in the genre. Tbh, for me it's her stage presence, or lack thereof that's a turn off. On stage she looks way too timid, when she should be a DIVA! She seems kinda shy, but you have fake it til you make it! Afa '4' is concerned, we BeyStans don't talk about that...
