She changed labels and everything about her (her music, style, and performances) suddenly got different. She lost a lot of fans and iirc even said that she'd like to do more rock than pop but that she isn't allowed to. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy her pop albums, but she did sell out. I read that she wanted a more fun style for her next tour (before The Best Damn Thing).Based on her interviews it looks like it was totally her choice
PMKKARDASHiAN 8,570
Her first three albums are flaw free. Avril used to be a fave of mine, then I kinda grew up and realized she's an entitled angsty douche who just happens to make decent, fun music. RepentingSinner 2,642
The 2013 album Avril Lavigne is great... When it comes to artists selling out.. Did Gaga do the opposite?

She thinks (or thought) she was so above it all and cooler than that or better and just too cool for school. That type of arrogance really irritates me. I loved her regardless, but now, 14 years later, I'm just like... OK p!nk junior

Anderson123 38,379
I grew up listening to her back then. I stopped when she released Girlfriend, which was a shock to me, but yeah, her first two albums are really good, especially Under My Skin. You should also listen to Goodbye Lullaby, I can listen to that album from start to finish without skipping a song.

But The Best Damn Thing was my fave album in middle school. Girlfriend was such a bop I Only Stan For Risk Takers

SlaeUrAnus 15,965
I used to stan so hard for her. Let Go and Under My Skin were fantastic! The Best Damn Thing was alright, but her recent albums were, well... underpar. In my messy era.

eifulien 2,960
I used to love Avril until self-titled happened. I think her earlier stuff are way better. But my fave is her 4th - Goodbye Lullaby. Astonishing album! But The best damn thing and Self-titled are meh. She's been absent for so long now, I hope she recuperated from the Lyme disease. But I haven't heard any news about new music coming soon from her.
Bio 23,538
The Best Damn Thing is actually her heavier sounding album, I don't why people say she sold out. Sure the lyrics are a little more poppy but the actual sound is much heavier with a lot of guitars and hard vocals.
