Maybe they can use this to their advantage? I tried picking it up again for the past few weeks and I really just can't connect with it at all. I think it's partly a function of the fact that the vocab it's teaching me just isn't relevant ("the ball is expensive," "What book does the student read?"), but also I just have no motivation right now. Like, I like KPop but I don't feel particularly compelled to understand the lyrics, and I'm sure I won't take a trip to Korea for at least a few years. It would be cool if I was just suddenly fluent in Korean but I really don't feel like putting in the effort to learn it lol 13 hours ago, PopReaper said: nnnn I had the same experience w/ Duolingo a few years ago when I was trying to learn French; A few weeks in and my vocabulary/sentence-making abilities were still stuck at a complexity level of "The dress is red" Last May/June I started learning Korean too through this local online course while I wasn't having any college classes due to the pandemic, but soon as they came back a few months later I kinda fell off and I basically haven't touched any of the lessons since . I plan on coming back to it tho as soon as my semester ends. 7 hours ago, PoshLife said: lmao that's exactly my experience with the Korean course. On the other hand, I used Duolingo to learn Mandarin last year and it was so much better. It immediately starts teaching you things you'd want to know if you're traveling to the country (My name is..., how are you, I'm from America, do you speak english, where's the bathroom, etc). It's a shame so many of the other languages they have aren't as good. I used LingoDeer for the Asian languages (and a few romance languages) just a few months before the app went from fully free to pay requirement (only first few courses are free now) A shame 'cause it was really great imo. The reason I even used it was because I needed to learn the language from another language which it provided while Duolingo takes forever (or if ever) to provide certain languages to be learnt from another language other than English (although I'm aware it's based on community effort). Example: Chinese for Korean speakers is in Incubation Phase 1 on Duolingo meaning that's gonna be a very long wait while LingoDeer already provided it from the start. (Also not sure if you're interested but incase, I recommend HelloChinese and ChineseSkill for Mandarin which also provides to be learnt from other than English) (Also someone needs to pressure these developers to provide Cantonese lessons on these format apps, I'm tired of using Drops free version it's a mess) Edited March 1, 2021 by Werk

PoshLife 16,923
I finally gave Chung Ha's album a listen yesterday. I didn't really like any of the singles/promo songs that are on it, but "Demente" is really good (the airhorn though nnnn). I also like "Flying on Faith," it gives me early 2000s pop/r&b teas, like something that girl group Dream would've put out.

PoshLife 16,923
So what do y'all use to listen to kpop? I've been using Spotify Premium for about two years, but this whole thing with KakaoM is starting to make me wonder if I should switch to Apple Music or YouTube Music. The one thing making me hesitate is that I listen to a lot of nugu acts and I'm worried there will be songs I can't find on AM or YT - Spotify has everybody and I've never had trouble finding a song I want. I'm assuming YT wouldn't have that problem since they all upload their MVs to YouTube, but I'm not really sure how that works. Anyone here use AM or YT and can tell me if they ever can't find a kpop song they want?

I think this thing that's going on rn will be fixed sooner rather than later.

For K-Pop acts I don't think there was ever a time where I couldn't find a song I was looking for, actually, iirc for a good while AM's K-Pop catalogue was quite ahead of Spotify's, and as of now I think they're pretty much at the same level. I do agree with Martijn tho, this KakaoM situation is probably gonna be solved by next month, or at the very least we'll see several acts temporarily hopping to other distributors (like IU and Jessi have already done), so if you really like Spotify and this is the only reason you're thinking of switching services, you could stick with it and just go for a free trial on AM or another service while this gets sorted out. Yeah I'm generally happy with Spotify. I wonder if there's any added convenience with Apple Music, though. Do you know if there's any integration between iTunes and Apple Music? I used to have all my kpop (and other music) in iTunes, including a lot of songs I didn't purchase legally... and so right now, if I want to listen to something older that isn't on Spotify anymore (like CHI CHI ) or that's just easier to find/listen to in my iTunes library, I have to switch between apps. Do you know if it's possible to put iTunes songs and Apple Music songs in one playlist, for example?

Do you know if it's possible to put iTunes songs and Apple Music songs in one playlist, for example? Yep, your iTunes purchases and Apple Music adds will all be in the same Library tab. It's also probably the biggest reason why I've really enjoyed it, bc before joining AM I already had a big iTunes library with songs and albums I downloaded from the internet, and the iTunes Match function syncs my entire library, including those songs, and makes them available to stream on my phone through the app, without having to download them and take up a lot of memory space. Plus it allows me to change the tags and album covers if necessary, and I like to keep everything very neatly organised so to me that's great. The only place where AM may fall behind Spotify depending on who you ask is probably those algorithm-made recommendation playlists, but they've def improved in that aspect over the past year or two and my experience with them has been pretty good also, so Edited March 1, 2021 by PopReaper Fun Fact: The K in KPop stands for "Kate Bush"
