Disney Star playing gay **** star in new movie

but you didn't anser any of my questions. I didn't ask you if you thought it was okay or not. You talk as if there's a huge difference between gay and straight people. and I don't think you'd be sure about who's gay or not if two guys did the same role. I'm honestly very curious about this gay experience

How about from an early age gay men are s-xualised so much because that's what we always see of ourselves? I never once saw a de-s-xualised portrayal of a gay man. The discrimination, the s-xual repression teenagers experience. While our peers are dating and finding partners, gay men and women are s-xually repressed because we are forced into the closet because being gay still holds a stigma. We never learn to build romantic relationships as teenagers/young adults

Gay people get less of an opportunity to know how relationships work, so when we become adults we find it easier to remain single and just **** everyone(Hello grindr).

Of course this is all a generalisation but as a white middle class male this is my personal experience shared with MANY of my friends, and acquaintances. Remember that this is worse where being gay is less accepting :smh:

Yes but anyone can do d--gs, not everyone can be gay, be black, be asian, be latina, be trans. Yes gay defines you but on a greater scale to that of d--gs (which i do not agree with how it's portrayed btw). Even if you don't recognise it, the stigma that comes along with being gay manifests itself in different ways in every gay man's life. I'd be lying to myself if I didn't say me being gay hadn't molded me different to my peers through my teen years.

Even though many people saw me as straight, the fact that I knew deep inside(:hunty:) I wasn't the same as my peers and the stigma that came along with it affected me in a way I hadn't realised until I was older.

If it's just about stigma, though, then you should make the same case for black people in oppressive centuries etc. etc. Most historical films and biographical films according to your theory could never have been made.

Anyway, I get what you mean, I still think it's irrelevant. A film is a director's vision and a writer's story. It's an interpretation of life, it's not (always) supposed to represent it and therefore I see no problem with a movie like Brokeback Mountain, the lead performances of which, as a gay man, I found mindblowing.

I mean, this movie is about a gay p-rn producer being killed. Brokeback Mountain was about the love between two men and how much of a struggle it is just to be in love with someone you're not supposed to be with. These movies aren't about being gay and to me, the themes matter more than whether or not a character seems gay. In fact, I think it's a good thing that these movies try to get straight people and gay people closer by stressing the universal connections instead of stressing the differences which is more counterproductive to positive social change than anything imo..

Flop thread with flop opinions tbh. I don't give a **** if the actor isn't gay. Tough **** for gay actors but what****ingever. I'm not gonna see it anyway.

Since when did 8 pages become a flop :air:

Albeit 90% is off topic fighting :air:

I agree, if you're right and this isn't about his life as a whole then it's not as bad that the actor is straight.

Im not seeing any problem with this movie thats completely bad, I guess i was just discussing it on a larger scale across cinema

Well it's true

I've had this discussion with many of my gay friends, like I said at the bottom it's a generalization. I don't expect every gay man to be like this

It's why gay men are so much more inherently s-xual than straight men. Because we're s-xually repressed at a young age + the stigma of being gay, it's easier to remain single and have casual s-x with other gay men when we're older

I certainly wasn't familiar with the ins and outs of a romantic relationship with a man when I was an adult, I just never experienced it as a teen because no one else was gay (or out).

It's why so many gay men associate with grindr, all I knew was the s-xual side of a relationship because that's whats shown in the gay community. Even as an adult finding other gay men is hard outside of grindr (which is most use for s-x)

And whenever romantic gay couples do get shown in the media, it gets slammed as "gay propaganda" or "pandering to the minority". This is why representation matters

So we can teach gay kids that s-x isn't what you have to resort to/ the staple of being a gay man

I went to high school with Garret (Gary is his real name), so weird seeing him talked about not only on Disney channel, but now about this movie.

I've never actually seen his movie, but its still weird seeing him on posters at the store. And I'm still here struggling to pay my college tuition :smh:

I'm not sure honestly. I always thought so, but he has never said so himself. He never really dated in HS. Even now, he keeps his personal life pretty private.

He's always been a very genuine down to earth guy, so I feel like if he isn't talking about it, there must be reason. I've always just respected that.
