Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger are to split after two years of marriage, Lavigne has announced.

The singer posted a picture from the pair's wedding day to her Instagram today (September 2) along with a message confirming the split:

"It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," she wrote. "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."

The pair married in July 2013, and the same year released a track 'Let It Go' to reflect the growth of their relationship.
