Guest Posted August 3, 2013 Share Posted August 3, 2013 It's not the fact that this community doesn't want to see Katy thrive and actually do something with artistic freedom, because that would actually shut a lot of Monsters up that keep saying she's only releasing shallow and radio-friendly songs. It's the entire coincidence of the release dates being so close to Gaga's and it's all about change and experimentation, I'm sure you see where I'm going with this. I do. Have you seen Katy's tweets right after her movie? She started taking trips to spiritual places. To define herself. It was pretty obvious that she'd change her image and explore new territories. That is what most artists do. But yeah, she and her team definitely waited for Gaga to make an announcement first. I see it more as an invitation for competition, though. Because it would be much wiser to release Roar during the week the VMAs are taking place. Also, the video where Katy refused to sign the Grammy showed us that she definitely knows how everyone views her. I just think Gaga is gonna wipe the floor with Katy in terms of how the ARTPOP project is gonna come across to the public. Ifeel like katy might receive a public backlash because of her dark image. I see some jokes here and there, but Katy worked just as hard as Gaga to get where she is. She's been through just as much rejection and disappointment (even from her family), and sadly her label isn't as open to her creative ideas as Interscope is to Gaga (That's why her singles are tailor-made for the radio, while her albums can be very deep). I'm very interested to see how she does. This. I love both of them, and they'll most likely have some success in both of their respective eras. Gaga is a huge album-seller with good single sales, and Katy is a huge single-seller with good album sales. All of this hate is so weird because they're not even their own greatest competition. Big album-sellers like Beyonce are greater competition for Gaga, and big single-sellers like Rihanna are greater competition for Katy. I do agree about ARTPOP and the GP's reaction to Katy. Gaga's comeback is almost guaranteed to wipe the floor with the other artists releasing in Q4 just because of her blackout, but I wonder how the GP might react to Katy's artistic side. There's a 50% chance that they'll love this side and she'll slay, or they'll hate this side and she'll flop. It's just like the risk Gaga took with releasing BTW.
