The only way I could see this working is if they arranged it like when Bette Midler did The Rose in 1979. The movie was basically a biopic of Janis Joplin but with a LOT of artistic license taken, so basically, it was inspired by Joplin's life rather than being an accurate portrayal. A scenario like that could work, but the idea of Gaga literally portraying Amy Winehouse seems a bit risky.

I'm sure Gaga can do it, she has the voice, the acting skills to portray it authentic and the right soul for that.

The problem is her image and her music, she needs to convince the audience with more adult and mature music to play a musician like Amy.

Gaga first needs to release music like for example Nina Simone and play piano plus show the whole world that she can create music who touches the souls all over the world without glitter and stuff - everybody must hear that she is a true musician. She needs to put out music with very blues and soul Far far away from electronic pop for radio. 

Only then the world will be ready for Gaga in this role.

She could do it! Though I definitely agree putting out a similar sounding album would probably help persuade the audience more. 

J.Lo was perfection as Selena, Jamie Foxx was a knockout as Ray Charles. Lady Gaga as Amy seems like a good fit.

The fact that Gaga is portraying an artist younger than her (Amy was 27 when she died I believe)? I don't like it. That makes Amy looks far superior than her and for me Gaga is just much more influential and good.
