I remember Madonna saying something like (can't remember the exact number at the time), "How is selling 500,000 records a flop?"Commercially, the album was less successful than Madonna's previous records. It peaked at number two on the Billboard 200, becoming her first studio album not to top the chart since her debut. ARTPOP is actually a #1 album. Both Erotica and ARTPOP had sales that many other artists just dream of. That's what happens when you set the bar so high with enormous early success. ARTPOP actually outsold more than half the albums released that year. Think of all those artists wishing their albums could do as well as ARTPOP. That puts things in perspective. I agree with the OP.
