Does Gaga's unnecessary screaming ruin Bang Bang?

I think the wailing is the best part...

Agreed, that's the emotion, right there.

Plus, that Latin groove is everything  :rockstar:

Not at all. Its not unnecessary at all, its the emotional climax of this arrangement of the song and its very appropriate.

I also wouldn't call it "screaming" because shes still actually singing (and in GREAT pitch too :legend: )

In general, I expected EVERY track on Cheek to Cheek to be Gaga belting after hearing Lush Life, but she was very masterful and showcased her lower register and soft vocals on many songs (including Bang Bang  )

Her "loud" moments were never... ,"Louder than Lovely" (so loud/shout-y sounding that they lost their character, pitch, color, or beauty  ). Its a phrase that ive heard all my life from professional music conductors :)

THIS THIS THIS  :worship: Thank You

I agree 100% with the post i quoted.  It's not screaming, its called belting and it's a technique singers use to evoke emotion and for dynamics.  In Bang Bang, it's a build-up so she starts out soft and simple and then by the end she is belting with full emotion so that we can feel her pain.  Calling it "unnecessary screaming" is pretty offensive and rude...u don't have to like it but atleast respect it

all this basically.  In fact I'd say its necessary the emotion she adds to the song at that point.

A little bit, but it's her interpretation of the song, and it's not that bad.

Pretty much this.

I think it's also that it doesn't add anything to the arrangement as it proffers more technique over genuine heartbreak (like Speechless, for instance). It just sounds like she's trying to sing very loudly.

Nope. Her belting really brings the song together, it's such an amazing climax. I got goosebumps when I heard that part for the first time.
