What about ARTPOP makes you think the label "watered it down?"

I don't think the Label is controlling her so much. I think she sometimes just likes to play a victim and put the guilt on others. They also let her do BTW, with that super awful cover, let her put out that TEOG MV after she had a fight with the producer etc. So why would they try to "water it down", when even BTW sold like 8 million copies?

It's maybe possible that she tried to make an album full of "hits" and prove everyone wrong (who ever that may be in her head), because she is always reading what everyone writes on the internet.

But i guess we will never know for sure, and i don't trust anything she says anymore. Because she is always contradicting herself and we are kinda used to it  :troll:

She said herself every song was designed to be radio friendly, and it was clear from following the era that they had no idea what songs should be singles so they tried to make every song a possible single, thereby stunting their potential.

I think the album was originally supposed to be much more substantial (both lyrically and sonically) than just a party album, a "long night at the club", which is kind of beneath Gaga at this point.

She spoke about making ARTPOP two cds (during the making of the album) and said about having one being a pop cd and the other to be experimental... fast forward to the VMAs 2013 and it's a party album. Something changed.

I think a lot of it had to do with the hip injury tbh, not so much the label. I think that's when ARTPOP started to change. I almost felt like she had too much time alone with it. The other albums were recorded and almost finished within about a year or so. ARTPOP had been going on since a few days after Born This Way was released, and it was probably "ready" (aside from touching final things up and other things) toward the end of 2012 (I don't think she'd announced the title of the album if she wasn't confident it was nearing completion) and the start of 2013, then throw in the hip injury, and she's got months more with the music after already working on it for probably longer than the first 3 albums.

I don't know, I mean it's my favorite album of hers so far, but I feel like she may have tried to "perfect" it too much. And like I said, after the hip injury, I think she began to change the idea, concept, and tracks she wanted on the album for whatever reason, maybe because she wanted to have a big comeback because she felt like defeated or something like that after she broke her hip, I don't know. But I don't think the idea/concept/sound change to "a night at the club" vs. what it was prior necessarily had anything to do with the label or Troy.

I think she over produced it while on break. She thought and thought and just tried to have it PERFECT , which made it worse. Shes a workaholic. tbh. She does her best work when rushed ala FAME MONSTER . :legend:

Anyone remember her tweet in Aug 2012 saying "I played the record for Interscope and they loved it"

So What HAPPENED :dead: did she trash the blonde decay theme or what??? @chica @zilla thoughts? I think that deserves its own thread tbh. Somethings UP! @slade

I don't really think there's anything 'watered down' about the album. The music just wasn't as good as expected, and didn't deliver. I'm a little disappointed that Gaga calls AP her "best work to date" when TF, TFM, and BTW are masterpieces and pure genius and miles ahead of AP. If the GP liked her music, they would care enough to seek her music out and not just rely on radio to play it. It's 2014. People can go onto youtube, spotify, etc. and other places to find music they really like.

This shows how tastes and opinions vary.  As much as I like TF, TFM, and BTW, I think AP is her best album.

vomits her mind

I think AP was almost 100% completed then after her hip she was trying to make it perfect. She had too much time on her hands. I think its totally different songs/lyrics to what it was in the beginning
