hmmmmm... Yes. Her last major hit was 4 years ago.

So would her music sound better to you if it was at #1? I'm not following your logic.

It didn't help that she came back with a lukewarm, safe lead single that was unfortunately pitted against a more popular song.

Which, incidentally, was an even more lukewarm, safe song that just happened to be by a safer artist.

Because she's not as good as she used to be. Her fashion used to be brilliant, but isn't anymore. Same with her music.

I love Gaga but she's not as good as she used to be. That's why. There' no contradiction. Just a decline.

And thats your opinion

I think it's a lot of factors:

1. Born This Way (single and album). It was a huge, brave risk but people were put off by the religious themes and strange new sound. It narrowed her audience significantly.

2. She kickstarted the avant garde/"crazy" fashion trend in 2008 and didn't evolve from that. Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Kesha started dressing like clowns because it was popular. Then society changed, as it always does, and those pop stars changed their styles, too. But Gaga didn't change because she wasn't following a trend; she was just being herself. And the majority of people don't "get" that, so they think she's still stuck in 2010.

3. The media decided to make her into a public hate figure and this became a whole lot easier when her popularity declined and her controversial antics became more frequent. It also didn't help that she started to respond to the negativity, which is something she hadn't done before. The GP started to think exactly how the media wanted them to think.

4. The enigma disappeared. Gaga started showing everybody the "girl behind the aura". She opened up about her boyfriend, her private life, her family; she went from befriending the living legends to fraternizing with Katy Perry and One Direction; she lowered herself by responding to the negativity of talentless celebrities, which resulted in public spats and feuds; she publicly admitted she was mismanaged and acknowledged how unstable her career was. And in doing all these things, she lost the mystery that made her so interesting in the first place. She became the "celebrity" she vehemently denied she was.

5. She disappeared for half a year. Even while on tour with BTW, the media talked about her semi-regularly. Then in Feb 2013, it was as if she stopped existing in pop culture. We saw no sign of her for months and she rarely kept in contact with her fans. Obviously she was going through a very hard time, but I believe this blackout was a big reason why she's just fallen off the radar. It didn't help that she came back with a lukewarm, safe lead single that was unfortunately pitted against a more popular song.

6. She released an album called ARTPOP. With a name like that, it was doomed from the start, no matter how good it was.

Interesting points! It is quite sad how the media portrays her as having no substance. Out of all her contemporaries she seems to have the most depth, a true artist.

hmmm... No.

Honestly the media holds more power over someone's image than I thought possible. I've never heard the word "flop" used more often than when the media started going in on ARTPOP before it was even released.

However, the negativity and backlash started during the Born This Way, so people like Joey can blame her latest album as much as they want, but there's a lot more to it. It's not the music, it's not even her. It's just incredibly easy to tear down a woman who is ambitious enough to go against what is considered normal or expected of a pop star.

Excellent rebuttal. I just hope that Gaga can keep her strength. I don't know how she does it. What the media is doing to her really shows how viscous society can be. Especially to someone who writes, produces, and sings all of her music.

That's funny, most people I talk to think the album is just great and are equally at a loss as I am that it's become "in" to hate on it.

And as for her success, please. What we have been seeing since 2011 is Gaga at her most unadulterated and (figuratively) naked. She is not the same bubbly yet enigmatic popstar that she was when she came onto the scene a few years prior. She's firey and expressive. And a lot of people don't like that. Oh well.

Her fans should be her refuge although too many Gaga fans don't like her moving away from superficial pop tropes.

Yeah ok. She was perfectly firey and expressive in 2010. Just with better taste.

This thread is about the GP's change in attitude. I listed reasons why. If you don't like them then go read another thread. This obviously isn't the place for you.

You The Fame And Fame Monster stans are the worst. You even want her to look the same as she did 2010. Stop living in the past!

And I debunked your baseless "reasons" with common sense. Try another tactic.

BTW(single) was  a huge succes (5 weeks #1)... but everythin changed the day she released Judas, she should have released Hair or another song ...and hide Judas forever ... the GP wasnt ready for a single about the man who betrayed Jesus ...

we are in 2014 lol maybe it was offending in some places, but in America-Canada-UK nobody really cares about Jesus now lol it was just a bad single choice
