Can she sing it live though? It sounded kind of scratchy in the last live Aura performance I watched. I don't like the song aside from the intro and chorus, so I don't keep up on it. I think BTW damaged her ability to hit those high, airier notes as well as she used to, but from PF/JD/etc at aR, she seems like she is working on it.

Her voice was best during TFM. Those who say her voice is better now are too caught up in the hype of what's new. This is her most viewed performance on the entire internet for a reason:

Perfect tone, control, no grunting, pure notes.

Since 2011 she has been grunting way too much and she sounds awful when she grunts. Her voice sounds so much better when it's more pure with clear notes. She's not Christina Aguilera. Her voice is completely different and she should not be trying to sound like her. She had her own unique vocal style before 2011.

I like The Fame vocals for what they are, I mean I feel like they are more autotuned and more "pop" than her other albums. The Fame album as a whole has an immature vibe to it, but it is a satirical album so it works. It's not that her vocals are terrible or anything on The Fame... I just prefer her vocals on TFM, BTW, and ARTPOP. I prefer Adele (earthy/deep) vocals over Mariah Carey (heavenly/high) vocals if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong I love The Fame just as much as I love any other Gaga album, the vocals just aren't my favorite. I prefer her live performance vocals from The Fame era to the studio vocals. :)

I agree stronger vocals doesn't mean they are btter vocals. It's about the way the emotions are conveyed throughout the song, and not about screaming on the top of your lungs. I often thought some parts of songs on ARTPOP could have been better if she sang them less over the top (like Dope, subtlety is better at times).

I agree! I get what she was doing with the chorus and trying to bring out that deep, raw feeling, but I think it sounded almost... too forced? Compared to Speechless I think Dope is awful (still like it however).

I'm glad you get what I mean by stronger not equating to better though. ^^

I mean, without a doubt her vocals are stronger now, but it came at a price.

That's not even close to her best acoustic vocals :rip:

Can she sing it live though? The album version is very edited. :/ haha I think Venus is actually her best higher notes on AP when she sings live from what I have watched.

Her vocals are stronger than ever and this proves it:

this slays tho, but i'd think if she contrasted with softer sung parts more it would >>>>>>>> the current DWUW version

TF and TFM vocals are cute but she used a lot of autotune in those albums. Almost every song has a considerable use of autotune.

ARTPOP and BTW are better in my opinion. Her vocals are more Gaga and less plastic pop star.

Not her best, but one of her best.

I see! I definitely prefer her live in TF/TFM/AP, but not so much on some of BTW, because she stopped pronouncing words clearly and that bothered me.

This is probably my favorite performance vocally aside from FMA. I was at a party and this video came on a playlist and everyone stopped to watch.  :legend: Dope on Letterman reminded me of this. It's the only time I've enjoyed Dope live.

no I don't think so, a lot of people think that vocal chords can be that flexible, and as a vocalist with 4 octave range I know what it is to belt or to sing in falsetto, the transition is very hard to get right. At times it works, and sometimes when you have a lesser day the vocal chords are harder to control. Most high parts are recorded seperately from the belt parts since its a different singing technique, and when used wrongly it can turn out disastrous.

The only thing I can attest to with this thread is when she first started performing and promoting paparazzi back in 2009 I was shocked her voice was so deep compared to the album version. She's always had a strong voice and it's gotten richer over the years. She's honestly the best she's ever been with her voice right now.. It's f*cking awesome

She lip syncs the chorus, though.  :(

no she sings a lower register, but the mic feed is softer for those vocals

I don't consider them plastic at all, because of the quirks she would go with. They made her Gaga.

Plus she still uses quite a bit of autotune. I mean, everyone does.

I usually judge Gaga based on live performances.

Do you think that could have had some effect on what I said about BTW's vocals? She switched it up a lot, almost too much and it got muddled for me.

It is! I feel like she's taking better care of it, because she can hit some of those notes and control it better again. :D
