Emvee 8,350
billboard doesn't count many countries and this is an official source so we may as well accept that 2.3 million number! What possible countries could be missing that would account for a near million difference?
GagaMyBlood95 9,915
What possible countries could be missing that would account for a near million difference? It's not a million difference, one number is 1.7 and the other one is 2.3.. 600k is big, that is true, but who knows, there are other music markets which can well contribute to that number

I guess the point is that we're going to arguing about this until we're in the next era. We argued about BTW's numbers till the very end too lol and I'm sure there are people out there who still think she ~only~ sold 5m with BTW. It doesn't matter
Rainbow Unicorn 82
YOU ARE SO ****IN PRESSED..ARTPOP HAS SOLD 2.6 MILION COPIES SO FAR, DON'T YOU BELIEVE IN GAGA? SO FAKE MONSTER... Oh, please calm down. Don't be so immature and rude. If you don't accept others opinions, your place is not here. This is NOT a place to fight. When a number is announced, you have to reflect before repeating it everywhere without any informations. Mediatraffic have his informations based on real sales and combine all the sales from those countries : USA (Billboard), Japan (Oricon), United Kingdom (Music Week), Germany (Media Control), France (Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique), Canada (Billboard), Australia (ARIA), Italy (Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana), Spain (Productores de Música de España), Netherlands (MegaCharts), Belgium (Ultratop), Mexico (Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas), Brazil (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Discos), Argentina (Argentine Chamber of Phonograms and Videograms Producers), South Korea (Gaon & Hanteo), New Zealand (Recorded Music NZ), Austria (Media Control), Switzerland (Media Control), Denmark (Tracklisten), Norway (VG-lista), Sweden (Sverigetopplistan), Finland (Suomen Virallinen Lista), Ireland (IRMA), Portugal (Associação Fonográfica Portuguesa), Poland (ZPAV), Hungary (Mahasz), Greece (IFPI Greece) and other. Here are all the big markets. In the other markets, albums only sold hundreds of copies. With all those countries, ARTPOP sold 1,760M copies. Can you find where the other 840,000 copies that you said for me comes from ? You won't. The truth is that you saw a number on a IFPI report and you don't know where it comes from. Gaga, her team, her label are obviously inflating numbers. All the labels do that, that's why they talk about copies sold when it's shipments. It's a marketing strategy, that's all. 2,3M copies of ARTPOP have been sold to retailers around the world, these are not public sales. To a label, what is sold to retailers, will be sold to the public. Doesn't mean that Gaga is lying to us. Interscope sold 2.3M (probably more) copies of ARTPOP to retailers around the world. Those copies are sales for THEM and that's what they reported. Retailers sold 1.8M (max) to the public. That's what the chart companies for countries reported on their chart releases. And that's what the MT guy reported because that's where he gets his info. This is not a difficult concept to grasp. Thank you. I'm glad you know this. Hope people will understand

Rainbow Unicorn 82
ISNT IT POSSIBLE THAT IN THOSE MARKETS ( JAPAN, USA..) IT HAS SOLD MORE THAN WHAT THEY TOLD US? Remember all the hate towards gaga...Dont you believe her when she said she had sold 2.6 M of copies? No it's impossible that she sold more in those markets because the copies sold by the public are reported every week by Billboard, Oricon, etc and they are official companies for years. About Mediatraffic, for example, the week before the first week of ARTPOP release, it was already available in Japan. Oricon reported 58k sold. Mediatraffic too. It really shows that they're based on official figures and organizations. She said 2,5M, but like I said, the label wants to announce shipped copies : what is sold to retailers, will be sold to the public, that's why they give shipments. It represents what they want to reach. It's their choice, not Gaga's.
COSMIC LOVAH 0
Gaga is labelled a "flop" this era because, compared to her previous sales, the sales are VERY underwhelming... The decline is hugely alarming.. Katy Perry's numbers have always been small (TD sold 190K opening week, Prism sold 280k) so it's easier to beat them but for gaga, who has gone from a platinum opening week, to about 25% of that (OW), people will definitely label her a flop.. With that being said, gaga has a lot of talent, so she can & WILL come back with a stronger era! The GP loves a good comeback ;)
Whispering 18,865
It is possible she felt pressured by her record label or her "fans" to lie about the sales. Especially the latter. But what I'm really trying to highlight with this thread is that this one album isn't the beginning of the end. No, it is not. Gaga was reporting the amount of sales that the album has sold. She actually talks to the record label, ya know! ;) (unlike the amateur at mediatraffic or the fans that think that this guy is some kind of authority ) Many times, Mediatraffic either underestimates or overestimates albums, and you can see that EVERY year when the legitimate IFPI report comes out. Mediatraffic is a guy, whose hobby is estimating and guessing numbers. Mediatraffic isn't using actual sales figures, except for a few countries.. The others are simply estimated according to their size of the markets based on the last (ifpi-statistics) AND their chart positions. Mediatraffic does not have contacts in other countries, nor do they get statistics from record labels. IFPI, established in 1933, is a professional organization that the recording industry worldwide gets its information from, and has for decades. Billboard and other industry publications around the world use ifpi's statistics every year to make their yearly reports. IFPI has music professionals as members in over 100 countries. IFPI gets their information on sales, both digital and physical, from these professionals in these countries, from Soundscan and other reputable reporting sources, and from the record labels themselves. The actual figures from the "point of sale" are all that I care about - and that is the reason, why I believe much more the public sales figures mentioned by MediaTraffic than the "shipments" byIFPI. Who cares about "shipments"? ARTPOP is doing really bad in a lot of her former key-markets. That's a fact. MAKE LOVE NOT WAR

SpadesToStart 3,444
This is important and everyone on here needs to realize the truth about ARTPOP's totally satisfactory performance. Why should we expect the media to stop calling her a flop if her fans won't even stop?

WorkBeep 0
2.3 million is better than I expected. Hopefully by the end of the year it reaches 3 million at least. If she released Act II it would easily push it to 3.5-4 million.
