Oprah: Young People Shouldn't Expect Work-Life Balance

Oprah Winfrey stated that young people should not expect work-life balance at the beginning of their careers. The 72-year-old said recent college graduates need to “lay in the work” before earning the freedom to make decisions based entirely on what they want.

She explained that people who are not completely free may have to make choices based on necessity rather than personal fulfillment. “You know, I think when you’re not free, not completely free, you can’t make decisions based upon what you want. You have to do what you want,” she said.

Winfrey said she regularly hears recent college graduates discussing their desire to establish boundaries between their careers and personal lives.

“This is what I say to my girls, you know, graduating from college and starting their first jobs and they’re talking to me about, you know, work-life balance,” Winfrey said. “At this point, I go, ‘you ain’t had no work life balance at 22… It’s not there. You’re not supposed to have it. You’re supposed to lay it in. Lay in the work.’”

According to Winfrey, the ability to decline unwanted opportunities and pursue only personally meaningful work must be earned over time.

They want people to feel guilty for wanting a life so they can keep overworking us and paying peanuts. :bye:

I wish they had the self awareness to be able to say "you know what I have been rich for decades and genuinely don't understand the current climate so I'm going to refrain from speaking out and wish them the best."

Or how about they use their extreme surplus wealth to pay living wages and fund structures that allow people to actually have a life without working like slaves.

Why does this woman have so much influence? She's kinda annoying and she definitely wouldn't have taken off in the UK. She's just capitalism and a massive ego dressed up as spirituality

So when are you supposed to have it? :interestinga:

You can work 60+ hours a week as a teenager/20-something and all it'll get you is sore joints and missed experiences by the time you're in your 30s and still struggling exactly like you always were. Because that's how the system is.

There is no work-life balance for anyone making less than six figures, which is 82% of American adults. And the only reason is 'cause our system has been held hostage by extremist career politicians who defer only to their donors and not their constituents.

Nobody of celebrity billionaire status should be speaking on working class issues unless they're platforming working class people. Can't believe I ever liked this heifer tbh.

Whimsical bitch
