In my opinion, they are doing the right thing. But I find it a little ironic that the US is now telling another country not go to war even after the US wrongly invaded Iraq and contributed to the death of hundreds of thousands of people. It could be way worse in other countries though, most of East-Europe and Central-Europe has over 40% of their gas from Russia. Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania 100%. What you probably need to realize is the fact that Russian troops are not entering villages and killing civilian people there. They are now only controlling the main infrastructure objects in the Crimea. This is a half-island with the strongest pro-Russian population. After the revolution had taken place in Kiev, the capital ciy of Ukraine, people of Crimea held their own elections and chose their own prime minister and president. They refuse to acknowledge the new Ukrainian government and asked for protection from the Russian side themselves. After that, Putin sent troops there. They are controlling two roads which connect the half island with Continental Ukraine, all the airports and other infrastructure objects. There are no fights in Crimea at all. People of this Ukrainian region have always been pro-Russian which is not surprising: Crime became part of Ukrain only in 1950s, before that it used to be a part of Russia and has ethnically Russian population. What is so complicated about the whole situation is the fact thatr Eastern regions of Ukraine are absolutely happy to be in the economic and political partnership with Russia, and have welcomed the invasion by replacing the Ukrainian flags with Russian ones, which is a mess. The Western regions, on the contrary, are against cooperation with Russia and demand EU-partnership. It doesn't matter that they're pro-Russian or whatever, it's Putin that is sending in the military. And Crimea is legally part of the Ukraine and not Russia's and Putin has no legal right to send in troops. The Western do not demand eu partnership, they demand that the Ukrainians be free to choose and not live in fear that anything Putin doesn't like he can send in his soldiers. Actually our main issue is nuclear fuel, but our president said we have enough in store for the next 2 years. Also our gas depository is full, but this is not really an issue since the main use of it is heating and winter didn't really happen properly, so... We actually get almost 90% of our gas from Russia so the good thing for us from the crisis in Ukraine is that it also made our lazy government to finally start to work faster on 3 projects that'll reduce that to 50% in the next 3-5 years.
