There's no reason to go to the hysterical extreme. The point is that songs that are getting good radio play don't have to have strong videos to make them popular. A video can fall under a wide range of what kind of impact it has on any song, from going viral to pretty much being a non-factor. It is part of an overall puzzle, that could be an important piece or it could be added at any time and not make a difference either way. There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to these types of situations. I know TONS of people who have downloaded The Monster, Royals, or Say Something and I haven't heard one of them say a single word (including on social media) about the videos to these songs. I'm expecting 150,000 from Christmas sales now. Such a shame. But looking at the bigger picture, you all are over a--lyzing way too much. Her career is fine right now. If she can still sell albums on par with her contemporaries when they had smashes, then she's fine. No one here was a--lyzing Katy, Bruno, or Rihanna's careers in a "what went wrong manner" when Uncon, Gorilla, and What Now flopped. We just looked at what went wrong with the SINGLE. Pop is not made for gay or girl like rap / hip-hop is not aimed to straight people. Personally I love both pop and rap music... I love Gaga who is a gay friend and I love Eminem who is homophobe... There isn't gay or straight music. There are plenty of straight guys who love pop girls and gay guys who love rap music. What there is though, is a general pattern that can be observed. I agree and I hope it comes out sooner, instead of later, but I'm not expecting it to change much. At this point, it pretty much comes down to what kind of label support will be there after the freeze. We are in full freeze mode from now until January the 2nd. After that, the charts will be a mess for a couple of weeks, as the numbers have to readjust. Some songs make it past the freeze and some don't. Much of that has to do with which labels get in there and push for which of their artists. But DWUW failing to take off is still a huge knock to Gaga fans. There's no reason it shouldn't have been as big (if not much bigger) as Applause, but it was just mishandled from the very beginning. Maybe a video and Xtina remix can save the song, but it's doubtful and looking more doubtful with each day that passes. I really just can't fathom why they didn't make finishing the video more of a priority. Who knows? Let's just hope the next single era isn't handled so messily. And yes my daughter was a Katykat for like 2 months. But then started watching her youtube clips/performances and said in dissapointment: Mom she cant actually sing And that was the end of Katy Perry in this household she completely stopped playin the CD lol.
