Carly's TIGOY was also discounted, but that didn't do anything for the song. Labels are here to turn a profit, and high charting singles helps gives them the coverage to accomplish this. If you aren't here for the business part of it, then why are you even on the charting thread? The entire point of this thread is to discuss the business aspect of music. Katy was going to only release five singles, but after LFN went number one, they decided to throw out a sixth one and see what happens. It wasn't some greedy battle like your making it out to be. Katy herself said that she didn't even care about the record. that's why they discounted TOTGA and made a remix with B.O.B when the song went top 5 on hot 100... That's not seeing what'll happen but more like helping s.th. to happen... but then again atleast the singles sold a lot so I am not crying about the discounts and etc.. It's just about the MJ record.. I agree - they were obviously pushing the song to #1. They didn't just "throw" a single out there.
