HOG feels like Stefani playing Lady Gaga playing Patrizia, and JFAD feels like Stefani Germanotta as Lady Gaga (not a character within a character like previously done, but her artistic name nevertheless) playing Lee. Lee is a much more nuanced character than you're giving credit for; at least, for comparison, better written than Ally/ASIB. And like, i love ASIB, but it's because I keep reading too much into the details. The actual movie fumbled the bag with Ally and reduced her to a side character on her own story, whereas Lee would've had stolen the entire film for herself if she had more scenes Agreed re: JFAD. I think it’s easily her best acting performance and I think they fumbled it, similar to ASIB, by sidelining Gaga. Had the film had the energy of Harlequin, I genuinely think it could’ve been a classic. I also think your point abt her feeling like Lady Gaga always feels like an additional character layer that has the potential to complicate her ability to play the role from a clean slate. I feel like she's always at a 10 even if the moment calls for a 5. Like atm on the West End/Broadway, I feel like her best possible role would be Sally in Cabaret. But a good Sally is able to swing wildly between a 1 and a 10 on the energy scale like a manic depressive, and I feel like Gaga gets a little too tunnel visioned with playing for the back of the room. She'd make an interesting Persephone in Hadestown, but it's a relatively small role for a Broadway/West End debut by someone like Gaga and it's not a production that's been doing much in the way of stunt casting. Personally, I think Gaga needs to do a comedy first. Something that will force her to moderate her character a bit more and focus on giving them peaks and valleys. This is what I'd want from a Gaga stage debut. /rantover lol Ngl Harlequin has always given me a bit of Sally Bowles energy. I honestly think she could nail this part We have forgotten our public MANNERS 4
AVeryGagaHolyDick 32,166
Her best eras vocally were The Fame and Born This Way. Are kidding me? Everytime I see a 2008/2009 performance, I’m in absolutely awe. The “worst” overall has to be The Fame Monster. Well, not the tour, but 95% of the promo performances etc. but that was a weird time wasn’t it? It was her absolutely peak in cultural impact but looking back it feels like she was sick almost every single day? And I’m not even talking about her endless schedule, but she also had an endless cold, didn’t she? Nearly every TV performance of Telephone or Alejandro, she sounded sick as phuck. And Good Morning America were she sang Teeth and Yoü And I, she still managed to sound really great but you could tell her throat wanted to die omg Edited 15 hours ago by AVeryGagaHolyDick 1

That being said, I feel like her acting roles can also lend to that reading, but it’s hard to tell if she is purposely finding roles that inform a (admittedly projected) meta narrative to “Lady Gaga” as a performance art/character piece. And while I don’t think she extends that to her personal life, I do think it’s interesting how Gaga/Stefani has had male relationships that also parallel major themes in her work. I think Harlequin’s original ballad elaborates further and extrapolates on those themes: I feel so crazy My head is filled with broken mirrors So many, I can't look away I'm in a bad way If I could fix the broken pieces Then I'd have a happy mistake Edited 15 hours ago by PornoDanceFight 1 1 1

This humanity of woman, borne its full time… will come to light when she will have stripped off the conventions of mere femininity in the mutations of her outward status, and those men who do not yet feel it approaching today will be surprised and struck by it. Some day… some day there will be girls and women whose name no longer signify merely the opposite of masculine, but something in itself, something that makes one think, not of any complement and limit, but only of life and existence: the feminine human being. But/and, as always, neither here nor there, just musing salt grains into the airwaves … and none of this might make a modicum of sense … but/and/so, as forever and always, deeply appreciative for your luminous insights and considered perspective Edited 14 hours ago by bxr 1 2

I feel like I generally register your performative critiques as exaggerated for comedic/antagonistic effect, but I feel like when I do what is essentially the same thing, it occasionally gets treated as hostility. Like I get *disagreeing* with what I said (I don’t post incendiary takes thinking I’m not going to get a reaction) but I feel like there was an undercurrent of trying to *correct* what I said in a way that leans more towards uncharitably characterizing me as being hostile when I’m just talking sh*t the same way you do in basically every thread and then hashing out any disagreements in a colorful, but not deathly serious way lol. I just don’t get why it’s somehow egregious for me to criticize JP but you seem bothered if I reply to you wholesale writing off LOTR and SW. Just occasionally feels like we’re operating on two different sets of rules here lol.
