How competent is Gaga at piano?

She’s no Jon batiste but she def can play the chords she needs to make good pop songs and I’m sure could impress us alll even more if she really wanted to

I don’t doubt her when she says she was, but it did not stick. Or at least she does not present that publicly. 

Like another poster said she’s a great pop/rock pianist but she does not play with any of what she would have been taught with classical training. The opposite actually.

But that’s okay! She’s a pop star, not a classical musician and we’re not (or at least I’m not) judging her like I would a classical musician.

So what I'm getting from this thread is: she has the potential to be one of the greats, but she is happy with where she's at. Her technique is not the best, but it gets the job done, and impressively so. She's a performer more than a concert pianist. We haven't seen her do or compose much that is legendary level skill, but that doesn't mean she isn't capable if she puts her mind to it and practises

I love her with all my  but I’ve never felt Gaga being an instrumentalist is her strong suit. I’ve always seen it as more of an aesthetic thing / part of the gig But if you look closely, even if you’re not an expert, you can tell it’s not really her thing

I think she did more complex piano performance during The Fame era (eg: acoustic versions of Paparazzi or Eh Eh), but since ARTPOP, she mostly play chords in love performances. 
 

I think it’s hard to tell how how good she is, because she never really showcased it. Yes a few past performances here and there, but nothing that intricate.

I’ve been annoyed by this since Joanne was the last tour with a keytar and a disco stick. I always looked forward to what the eras disco stick and keytar would look like.
