BBC censors pride pins on University Challenge

This comes after they censored Strictly Come Dancing. They’ve also cancelled the only LGBTQ+ dating shows on tv right now, and Drag Race UK which was one of their biggest shows overall.

This was their response.

When we asked them about editing out the pins worn by Leicester’s University Challenge team, a BBC spokesperson said: “In line with our editorial guidelines, we advise that no badges, flags, and emblems or symbols are worn or visible during filming, along with clothing with obvious branding or slogans. If such items are not removed for any reason then a decision is made between the programme makers and the BBC regarding any edits to the programme.”

I thought it might be to do with them not allowing brands/advertising etc.

The BBC used to do a decent-ish job at being neutral. (They got almost equally accused of bias by both sides, so that tracks.) Now they keep pushing slowly further to the right.

I can’t say for sure, as I’m not too versed in the logistics, but whenever I watch BBC News / BBC America, they reference CBS as their Stateside network affiliate … so, just an anecdotal / empirical note fwiw

During the Conservative governments from 2010 through to 2024 there were numerous appointments made to the BBC's board of directors which were predominantly all Conservative political activists. 

The Chairman was likewise a Conservative party plant.

We're seeing the end result of total institutional capture of the BBC.
