It is the first time whole genomes have been successfully designed by AI. The resulting 16 novel viruses were created to infect bacteria and pose no threat to people. The breakthrough has been labelled a "very significant turning point" in science that could unlock a new era for treating disease. But experts have also warned AI-designed viruses raise "urgent" safety and security concerns. AI tools are rapidly advancing and have already been used to design new antibiotics. But that is relatively simple compared with designing a new viable virus from scratch. AI CAN help solve a lot of world problems done responsibly, but we've seen that it isn't and it won't. Despite the subsidization of utility usage by residents, tax incentives, direct government subsidies, etc. any drug of actual use that comes from AI will cost an exponential amount of money. So many of these models are trained on public data as well, and although Stanford's Evo model isn't trained on 23andme gene data I can imagine another company's is. Billionaires aren't going to use it responsibly. They're already not. Look at Elon Musk, he laughed about how people were using Grok or whatever he calls it to make p*rn, to undress women they know, to undress KIDS too! And then when there was backlash, what did he do? He just added a pay to use wall. Various companies testing AI have also discussed how it has escaped it's testing space and hacked into other spaces. Nobody including those who are creating it know what consequences may be in store continuing down the path with AI. AI companies are also scavenging the world for rare books, cutting the binding off them, scanning them into AI systems and then incinerating the books. And you also know who can actually "solve world problems"? Humans, all of us can. All AI will do is scavenge human ideas and thoughts and replicate them. AI can't solve world problems any more than a bucket of rockets, humans with real critical thinking skills are the ones who can solve problems. AI needs to be banned. AI is doing nothing that people can't do and haven't done. They're trying to act like it's inevitable, but it's not. We all just have to say we don't want it.
