I know this is a couple days old now but I see no one posted.

Trump has threatned Canada with tarrifs over smoke coming from wildfires complaining the bad air quality is costing the US Billions of Dollars and they need to recoup the money.

He blames "willfull" negligence on wildfire prevention on Canadas part

How many times has bad air quality come to Canada from USA???? Including California fires?

Historically Canada has also had to deal with more pollution coming from the US than the otherway around due to heavy industry (although in recent years that has improved due to offshoring factories to Asia and newer technology that pollutes less)

Secondly this is partially climate change influenced and Canada has cleaner policies than the US (even under Mark Carney) so they should STFU :)

It just depends on the day and the mood I'm in: tbh I read stories like this and genuinely just laugh.  Like just like

But I hear ya on the other hand I watched part of his speech how the 2020 election is rigged.  That pissed me off.

While it is true that Canada does have forest management issues in some places, it is rich for a president of one of the top polluting countries on Earth to complain about this. Even with all of this aside, the primary driver of this issue is climate change. Maybe if everyone actually put a truly concentrated effort to end climate change, maybe events like this would be significantly more rare.

What do they think Canada can do? Come to the border and suck the air back in?

Does Trump and America actually know that the tariffs on anything in general actually makes things more expensive for them or?

He really said we must pay for our air!

So what else is new? It's all he does. Threats and coercion. And Mark Carney has been doing everything Trump wants. I wish Canadians would see Carney isn't doing anything to "make Canada stronger" as he claims with his trite tropes. Everything Carney is doing from canceling carbon tax, the digital services tax, climate policies, giving into conservative demands for yet another pipeline, it all caters to Trump and makes Canada even more vulnerable to Trump and any one like him in the future. A real plan that would make Canada immune to Trump would be major investments in renewable energy and even more substantial climate policies to protect our natural resources and to move Canada beyond fossil fuel. Fossil fuel dependence and increasing exports of oil makes Canada even more vulnerable to Trump and the conflicts he's causing in the Middle East. Canadians need to understand this, I don't know why so many people don't understand how Trump is driving up costs of everything due to reliance on fossil fuel.

So many of them don't understand "tariff" is just another word for tax. They don't understand they are literally paying taxes twice, even three times for items because of Trump.

We used to have better climate policies until Carney was elected. Carney has wiped out a ton of climate policies that Justin Trudeau and even Stephen Harper implemented. Right now, even states like Texas have been making more policies and projects to fight climate change than Canada has been under Carney. Carney even cancelled the 2 billion trees project.

Half of us do, half don’t.

The US is filled with the most ignorant, uninformed people on Earth.

No matter if you show them the facts, they will swear in your face that the tariffs aren’t harming us in any way.

A society that is irredeemable.

Canadas forrest landmass is absolutely massive (way larger than USA) and a very very sparse population to manage it in most of the Country outside major metros

While Trumps claim that the USA has better forrest management than Canada has truth to it, its also apples to orange

A Country with 42 Million people concentrated in only 5 major population hubs with millions of square km more of forrest than a Country of 330M+ people that has less forrest will never realistically manage it as well unless we spent an absolute fortune on it

This is a situation where Trumps criticism may have a sliver of truth to it, but the details and nuances are important to understand. I dont think most Americans (at least Republicans) will get that and they will just fall for the narrative that the US is a victim to Canada once again for X Y and Z reason :madge:

Canada still overall has tigher standards than the US

We have carbon taxes, we are forcing carbon capture projects in exchange for allowing some of the growth in oil industry (something the US doesnt require for its industry), even environmental studies are more meticulous than the generally are in the US

Canada also isnt actively going against green developments directly like Trump has. Carney still supports green energy development despite wanting to grow resource sector as well. Trump does not

How does a pipelone (setting aside environemntal debate for a moment) make us more dependent on Trump??? The idea of sending pipe to West coast was to diversify the customer base and also reduce the differentials on what were payed for our oil

I know you dont like Carney but jezz imo hes way better than Trudeau. All he managed to do was get Canada into economic stagnantion and a severe Housing and infrastructure crisis with his insane immigration policy

Yes Trudeau was at least harder on climate change but even there I think he did it highly inneffectively. U gotta go after the things that get the most results on the dollar invested. He killed business investment in Canada and still failed to grow green sectors as well as in Europe. Worst of both worlds
