Starting from February 2027 to comply with new European law, the Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED will be discontinued in Europe.

Switch2, Switch 2 Controllers and the original Joy Con will receive a revision to comply with the new rules, introducing user-replaceable batteries. The biggest impact will be on the Switch2 Pro controller, having a 16% smaller battery than before. These changes will be rolled out gradually over the coming months

Nothing changes elsewhere (for now)

that sounds kind of dreadful, like what's the replicable battery entrance going to be like? hopefully not like on the remotes, because Jesus take the wheel. Good thing I have just bought a S2 and will avoid this :ladyhaha:

The DS and 3DS also had replaceable batteries and they were still ok.

They will probably provide some standardized screws under the hinge and on the back of the console and make sure that the battery is easy accessible.

I don't see this as a bad thing. It can have its benefits like the USB-C standardization
