my heart hurt... trancedonna </3

There's a lot of trancey elements on the album, to be honest. The album is very similar to the more club oriented parts of Ray of Light and Music than it is Confessions.

It's a 10/10, perfect record. Don't kill me for this, it's not a comparison, but I wish Gaga would make an album like This. It's feels like 100% artistic freedom. Nothing else matters—just making music for the sake of it.

I’m not totally sure she does, though. I think she has a lasting legacy that makes her a viable touring force, but I genuinely think her new material only generates interest within her fanbase and broader target demographic (gay people, pop fans more broadly). IMO, she inhabits a weird niche of being both a living legend and one of the biggest pop stars in history while also being something of a cult figure in the contemporary pop landscape.

I can get down with that. I think that's precisely why I'm hesitant to label her a legacy act. She sits in a very new (and uncomfortable for some) space where she is an older artist but she's one who refuses to settle into her status. She is constantly ****ing around with her older material, recontextualizing, etc. She's not precious about any of it. The fact she's out wearing her own archival pieces from 20 years ago instead of having them preserved in amber speaks a lot to how she sees herself.

Can't believe there's people who think Madonna ISN'T a legacy act. She is quite literally a living legend who's main rememberance comes from her very much past golden days, not what she's doing currently. No, the sabrina collab didnt shift this, id argue it perpetuates it cause its the same phenomenon when a very old, none-current artist bandwagons on a main pop girl to gain some credit with newer generations. And her being a touring force doesnt negate her legacy status eitherl. I bet the majority of fans who attend are people who want to reproject the old madonna into the current one. Have the experience of seeing THE Madonna live in their lives, travel back to the hits. Like, the ACTUAL fans of the current era are just a much much much smaller fanbase today. If anything, she ISNT a Nostalgia act like Katy Perry. I think those terms, Legacy and Nostalgia Act, are not quite the same.

They are often used interchangeably.

I know, but I think they don't represent the same thing. I think Nostalgia Acts really ONLY rely on their past hits/past commercial peak and have absolutely no grasp on the cultural conversation, nor critical acclaim. Madonna to me is absolutely a legacy act in the sense that maybe 85% of her success is driven by the catalogue she established decades ago, and the remaining part is people who still tune in today. I mean, Confessions II is being talked about enough for her to have some presence in the conversation. I'm also 100% sure she'll take the Best Dance Electronic Album Grammy too, based on her name alone. But is she commercially successful today? no. Will she have a top ten hit anytime soon? no. Do people think about Madonna and go "Madam X is so good!", no. Most of her conciousness comes from remembering her past success.

I used Katy's example cause she did not establish a strong enough catalogue in her prime to carry her over forever. Everything she puts out gets **** on, she is laughed at, no relevant cultural impact today, no respect whatsoever for her artistry and her tour only sold out because of the past hits. To me, thats a Nostalgia act. A pseudo legacy act, without a legacy to rely on.
