why she's is in the same thread at the same line with Katy then? :laughga: Like, they are promoting Charli's album if she does better albums. Katy was better with singles as far as I remember so it's a distaster for her to get these numbers, incomparable to Charli.

Because the OP of the thread is a Swiftie and they hate Charli :iamfair:

I just don’t really think today’s media ecosystem is really designed for mega stars. You can have viral hits, but people ultimately care more about the song than they care about the artist in particular because of the diversification of media feeds and algos, but also because people’s exposure to something like Beautiful Things is through viral vids that have nothing to do with Benson, so people are responding to the song more than him as an artist.

I agree. I also think the sound of music is more important now, if you look at artists like Dominic Fike, Sombr Malcolm Todd, all are heavily streamed and they sound very "authentic" alternative type of music. I think typical pop music is out of favour right now with the younger generations who are the biggest streamers. Like pop music seems very uncool nowadays unfortunately.

I think its more that modern pop is out of fashion.

Older pop names and tracks are doing very well with gen z etc.

Personally, I think its because modern pop artists are heavily formulaic now. Songs are short ready made for streaming & tiktok marketing. They lack soul and honestly production is **** atm.

Where as the pop music most of us grew up on and then got to embrace ourselves had much more livelier and energetic production alongside being songs with real impact either invoking emotion or being the soundtrack to a night out.

Like lets face it. Sabrina Carpenter's a MPG atm, but her music is so **** for a night out compared to what we had.

We had OG era Gaga, pop Beyoncè, california girls Katy, mother****ing Robyn.

Pop works best as night out music, its supposed to be fun and party worthy even if its an emotional gut punch like Dancing on my own. You just don't get that from mainstream pop atm

And this is why I also feel it is harder to get hit songs relying on your star power

It is even hard to get a star power atp

We're so fragmented now & music is probably the most readily available its ever been because of streaming and I just don't think we'll ever have a pop star or rock star of the calibre that gave birth to thos labels.

Because like to become a pop star or a rock star, you needed to have more than just a good song or a good album. You needed to be able to command mainstream media attention and the GP through it.

Nowadays, I don't think there's a "GP" for music. Everyone has their genre(s) and can find ready made playlists that give it to them.
