He got a taste of success and turned into a chart chaser for a while (like Coldplay). Like compare Shivers to A-Team. This Is so true. From the Behind the scenes we had back in the day, he got his ego completely inflated. They treated him like he was some Genius. Coldplay Is even sadder. They actually had something special going for them but got completely absorved by the machine. And yeah huge ego, at least from Chris Martin. This argument that streaming era really tells what people want to listen to is such BS to me. People on this site are mostly Active listeners, MOST people here pay attention, but MOST people don't care. They Just drive and won't pay attention to whatever song Is on shuffle.

I’d wager these big artists garner millions of extra streams bc of this especially if it only needs to play for what 30 seconds to count as a stream

Mid reviews and this album made no noise (no smash hits despite a #1 song). He’ll either do a Cheek to Cheek/Joanne to prove his talent and maintain consistency or a 143 trying to reclaim past glory and flop. Totally agree. As It Was was #1 for 10 weeks straight in the UK. Aperture was #1 for a single week and isn't having any impact so far. American Girls just hit #1 this week but I see it suffering the same fate. It's better to get a top 10 that everybody knows than go #1 and then have everyone forget about it. It seems he may be falling into that realm of having consistent success but only among fans. Fortunately, he has enough fans to ensure that this still translates into big numbers for sales and touring but it may be a case of only the fans knowing and caring about his music.
