I guess she knew Abracadabra would pick up and she usually does have this push with second singles (Rain On Me, Million Reasons, Judas, Telephone, Poker Face, Do What U Want) but wants the lead to have a solid start or to stand on it's own. I think that's the beauty of Gaga's albums. There's not 1 or 2 single worthy songs. Also Disease is the best song on Mayhem, way better than Abracadabra. Disease is more complex, dynamic and layered than anything else on the album. But also, I wish the visual aspect of the album was better, you have these gloriousl songs full of poetry, instrumental and vocal texture and they put on such a relatively boring set of covers and album photoshoots. Despite it being one of my faves, I kinda wish Vanish didn't start with the chours, but just the few piano chords going into the guitars.. Probs a popular opinion, but I also wish we got something like what Jade did for her album, like if a smaller artist can do it, why not Gaga instead of what seems like ai generated moving images from the before mentioned meh album shoot. Not as bad as Chromatica but overall it's very safe and is missing the Gaga factor to make it exciting. I made a list ranking all Gaga songs and the first song from MAYHEM is at... #25 or something? - The tracklist is way too long and is messy. The order of the songs doesn't really make sense until the middle of the album. And the MAYHEM concept is only there on the first part of the album. - Born this Way has a lot of songs that are way more rock than anything on MAYHEM. - Abracadabra is terrible, the verses are very dull, production and vocally-wise. The hook slaps and the rest of the song doesn't live up to it. - Blade of Grass is amazing and I'm not surprised that the fans don't get why it sounds like this, because y'all also didn't understand 911, DWUW, Swine, Joanne (album) and so many more.
