bpmMonkey 6,213
So speaking of wannabe-cultural-literates, I thought more about other forms of cultural expressions - mostly because I now finally wanna watch Hamlet, which is currently running at the theater I'm working at. I generally prefer newly developed shows and not necessarily classics reinterpreted. Leading towards my question: what other forms of traditional art do you consume? I watched a couple of ballets and really enjoyed them, don't really get into opera, go to the theater (the proper, European one, without the singing) a lot and maybe add a gallery to the mix once a month. Soooo how about the rest of y'all, what do you enjoy and would recommend to someone else ? 🤗

Cavadour 2,499
Not into classical music per se, but along the years I fell in love with some Schubert (string quartets), Chopin (piano solo pieces) or Erik Satie (Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes) and neo classical artists like Philip Glass, Michael Nyman (composer of most Peter Greenaway movies) or young interprets such as Víkingur Ólafsson... Late to the party but I got a diamond heart

'm a former ballet dancer (broke my hip years ago and could never get back into it at the level I was going). I haven't gotten the chance to see an opera, but I do like opera music! Not sure if this entirely counts- but classical music is my biggest passion, mainly due to being a ballet dancer. I love the stories that can get told only through instruments and so I have often gone to see symphonies play. If you havent checked any out, I 10/10 recommend! Gliere is currently who I've been listening a lot to. I haven't been to an art museum in so long but I have been dying to go! It has also been a huge dream of mine to attend a fashion show just to witness it- because in some cases it is all about wearable art

Classical music is tricky to get into I think... both my brother and I grew up musicians and he still hates classical music to this day because he finds it boring. Having been a dancer, I think I just got used to moving to that type of sound and I also love being able to write my own symphonies using MIDI! I live in Berlin for 10 years now and only a few years in realized that there is a lot of culture besides clubs and drugs in town 😅
PartySick 161,835
I go to a local theater every now and then when they have something good. They just did a take on the Rocky Horror Picture Show Idk if it counts but there's also a local bar me and a guy go to that has a comedy night. Just local people but it's nice being social with locals for once. What could be more cultured than off color jokes, booze, and smoke with strangers Other than that, I love live music of any kind. I'll literally go to any concert, dive bar, small venue, piano near a mall food court, whatever it is. I love seeing people perform Maybe I have a different idea of "culture" than the intended topic though You're stinky 1

But ja, I initially thought of the European classics (Ophelia and so on)
Ronk 14,762
Opera is quite varied. Try one different than those you normally see. I recommend a short baroque opera I find beautiful. Purcell's music is always wonderful. You can watch on Youtube. I live outside the space time continuum.
