Unpopular opinion: Disney movies

- Beauty And The Beast & The Little Mermaid are the best Disney movies
- Snow White is underrated
- The Jungle Book 2 was really goood
- Mulan & Pocahontas are overrated
- Ariel is the best Princess
- The Lion King is good, but a little bit overrated

Strictly animated Disney movies?

 

The Emperor's New Groove is the best, by a long shot.  Don't argue with me.

Growing up, Little Mermaid was my favorite. Ursula is an all-time great villain, design/voice/character-wise. But looking back on the story as an adult, it has PROBLEMS.

I've only seen Bambi once, & not even all the way through. I only remember the emotions, not the events. According to my mom, after the deer's mom was shot, I made her throw the VHS away while I sobbed. Not even in one of our indoor garbage baskets, but the big bin in the garage. She had to open it & throw it away while I watched because I couldn't reach the lid lmao. I will never watch the rest of that movie in my life.

Similarly, I don't really remember these movies, I just recall Tarzan & The Lion King being too sad.

Finding Nemo is the best Pixar movie. The music, the story, everything. Disney/Pixar made a lot of good films, but they peaked there.

Hercules has some of the best original songs, but Once Upon A Time from Sleeping Beauty is one of the most beautiful songs of all time, from a movie or not, animated or not.

Incredibles 2 should have been about Edna Mode & no one else.

The evil stepmother transforming into an old woman in Sleeping Beauty? I can do the best impression of that you've ever heard, no contest. "Mummy dust... to make me old. To shroud my clothes? The black of night. To age my voice, an old hag's cackle. To whiten my hair, a scream of fright. A blast of wind, to fan my hate. A thunderbolt to mix it well. Now begin... thy magic spell.  Look... My hands! My voice... my voice...ahaahahahh"

The holy trinity of Disney movies for me:

Up. I watch it at least once a year. It gets better and more meaningful as I age. 

Dumbo. It's so gorgeously sad. It's the Phoebe Bridgers of Disney films.

Robin Hood. When I was a kid we somehow had a DVD of this more obscure Disney film. I love this movie so much it hurts and my sister and I still can sing the songs.

- Atlantis is severely underrated. 

- The Princess and the Frog was clearly sabotaged by higher ups

- Pinnochio may be the most unsettling film from Disney 1900s catalogue 

- 2nd half of Lion King is good, but not great

- Fantasia was ahead of its time

- Hakuna Matata is... irritating 

- Esmeralda deserved to be dubbed as a Disney Princess 

- Disney's handrawn films > CGI films 

- Writers should've kept Elsa as the original villain of Frozen.

Aladdin will always be my all-time fave, tbh. The music, the animation, Robin Williams’ performance, Jonathan Freeman as Jafar? Iconique.

Hercules is also incredibly underrated.

Echoing @NUTELLAabout Little Mermaid. The plot changes they made from the Hans Christian Andersen story (while they make sense for a children’s movie, I guess) completely defeat the entire message of the story.
