Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this proven incorrect? Allegedly Lady Gaga and Troy Carter lied about the sales being double of what they actually were. Apparently it was 4,000,000 by the end of 2011, 5,200,000 by September 2012, and 6,000,000 by early 2019. Now it probably is ~8,000,000.

There is a possibility that they may have been referring to shipped copies and not sales, though.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe I read somewhere that copies that have been shipped off (to stores) count(ed) as sales even if they weren't purchased?
