Yeah, I see what you mean. Idk how much issue I take with the songs themselves, but I think you’re right about them lacking a certain spark or dynamism. Tbh if/when she doesn jazz moving forward, I hope it’s more in the vein of Harlequin

tbh i think the bennett albums were just that: collabs with bennett. she was an outsider coming into a new space with a veteran and likely wanted to let him drive the direction and have the creative vision out of respect. without tony, she has a bit more creative freedom now having done two classical jazz albums to gain the street cred she needs to be able to pull off something like harlequin, imo. so i think she'll probably be doing more of that if she does jazz again (which i hope she does)

I’ve never listened to The Fame or Born This Way in full because I had these “rainy day” songs that I decided to not listen to in case I ever got depressed in the future and wanted my spirits lifted with a “new” Gaga song (new to me at least). My rainy day songs to this day include Disco Heaven, Americano, Bad Kids, and The Queen. I’ve just never thought to listen to them since and continue to skip them. People have told me that The Queen is the only one I’m really missing out on :laughga:

The bridge of The Queen is one of my all time favorite bridge :tony:

Every time I see the title of Love for Sale I just hear her Grammys performance: “blablablabla live for sale”

REALITY

C2C and L4S, I understand, but if you haven't listened to one of the LG_ albums in full, you need to immediately revoke your stan card  And yes, I'm including Harlequin in that because it is LG6.5 :huntyga:

None. I mean I don’t actively listen to her Jazz stuff because it’s not really my style of music, but I’ve listened to those albums in full at least Once.

Such an odd question for me lol. I have listened to all her studio pop albums in full. Never been a big jazz fan so can’t remember if I have listened to those in full

Smother Em Eh

If you haven’t listened to one or a few of her studio albums in full, are you even a LM? :oprah:

that's fair, i'd also state that it's maybe not just the material but the material's suitability - for example, you love lady gaga's music but you might hate a cover album by myself singing the exact same songs simply because the way the material works with my voice doesn't work for you. i feel like in the jazz space gaga has often tried to honour the material by not adding too many flourishes etc., except on songs that allow for that naturally (like lady is a tramp), so maybe that's why. but personally i did feel like most of the songs on l4s lacked something from them, a spark, some dynamism. the melodies also weren't earworms, well known songs or crowd pleasers in the way that some of the songs on harlequin or c2c were imo

See, I didn't know most songs from C2C or Harlequin either but I loved them on first listen. I also loved Anyrhing goes right away. And even now that I listened to the album several times, it's still not clicking as much as her other jazz songs. There's something off about the album, not sure what it is. Maybe Anything goes is the one catchy Cole Porter song.

I have listened every and each one back to back, though maybe love for sale was just background music for something and I didn’t focus that much
