She's done it again  What an utterly beautiful and soft and devastating album. Not a single bad moment on this album. 

Tempest is a career highlight and probably her best song to date. 

RIP Ethel Cain, you will be missed.

Tempest is so amazing. I am just very sad that Ethel dreaded making this album. She said that she didn't feel anything while making it and that she was crying every day from the thought of having to work on it.

she explained this a bit more in her IG caption on release day:

"somehow it’s harder to believe that this one is finally out than it was with preacher’s daughter. what i initially mistook for hating this record was actually realizing that this record still resonates a lot deeper with me than preacher’s daughter did by the time it came out. it still feels raw and too close to home. i realized i don’t hate this record, im just still overwhelmed by how real it feels. this is the scariest record i think i’ve ever made."

Great Album. I love it. But it’s very sad and depressing so I don’t know how many times I can listen to it in full. If I had to criticize it I would say that maybe, besides **** Me Eyes, there could have been one more a Little more upbeat song and some of the songs don’t have to be as long as they are. But Overall Great and I cant wait to hear it live in November.

So, to be honest, the production isn’t really clicking for me at times — it has this sort of tin-ny quality that is common in a lot of slowcore music but that I feel just jumbles the more rhythmically complex songs, like Nettles, but works really well at other times, like Dust Bowl. It’s enough of a hang up that it’s hard for me to get over in the parts where it doesn’t work. But I’m enjoying the album, I’m a huge fan of Ethel.

Amazing. She really captured the nostalgia, the long ass tracks and instrumentals almost feels like a fever dream.

Nettles is one of the most beautifully written snd produced songs I heard in years!

also Dust Bowl album version with the amazing guitar riffs is to die for.

Ngl I like the feel and warmth of this record more than the overall vibe/aesthetic of Preacher’s Daughter. Her vocals are excellent. Crazy to me how much she sounds like Florence sometimes.

This is an insane journey, I'm totally amazed by how amazing the sound design and ambient moments were built. It's beautiful.

Had it on repeat the whole weekend. I pretty much died, ascended and was revived several times during my first listen, it's such a beautiful album... Even though the subject matter is depressing, it feels very hopeful to me. It feels a lot lighter than Preacher's Daughter. I'm pretty big on melancholic music, it somehow doesn't depress me, it just makes me feel seen. Ethel is shaping up to become one of my favorite artists currently, I can't wait to see her again in a couple months.
