No one said Katy stole it. It's tweet from fan who just posted it to show that her TEAM is lacking creativity.

The tweet literally says she stole it:

Katy's TEAM.

They said they worded it wrong but it's about her team.

Mexican here, just to add some context since some comments need a bit of it. Bootleg merch here is on a legal gray area, as there are no specific laws that prohibit anyone from making and selling it, (Unlike with pirated CDs), so it is actually allowed and usually sold even inside the limits of the venue and not on the streets. There is even a temporary market in december where they sell all the merch they didnt sell through the year.

Its completely up to the artists to allow it to happen or to take it upon themselves to sue and get it taken down and confiscated based on copyright, which happened with the Rolling Stones in 2016, but this is extremely rare. There are stories of other artists buying some of it for themselves, or even hiring people as designers. And most just let it happen because they know that it is an income for a lot of people, and that most people here cant afford official merch anyway.

Now when it comes to the design, it is very hypocritical indeed to say that Katy stole it. But I agree that it does show a lack of creativity by her team, and really puts the price difference into perspective..

I could be a pie for your zombie bite....

It’s such a widespread practice artists never make a move to stop them, even though it probably does cannibalize some of their own official merch sales. I do think it’s ludicrous that these bootleggers would try to take the indignant high ground in this situation.

TBF tho I dont think they were complaining unless im misunderstanding. Seems like its random ppl complaining. But im saying they shouldnt be (on their behalf)

I’m still not sure why you quoted me and said no one said Katy stole it. That wasn’t even what I said in that original quote that you used.
Also, when people on this site complain about any artist, they are generally just using the name as a catchall which also includes the team, because we all know artists don’t make business decisions without their team involved.
Finally, in this case, these additional tweets show that the merch people realize Katy owns her own image and I get they they’re complaining that Katy’s team should be more creative. On this point, honestly Katy’s team has a known history of seeing fan made or bootleg designs and then choosing some of them to use. She used the alternate artwork a person made for Smile as an alternate cover. There was a tshirt design for Rose or something that someone was selling on Etsy and then I became one of her official merch. So this is just something her team does. People can decide if they want to judge them for that or not, but it’s her image and they will likely keep doing it, so I guess people should be aware if they want to try to make something on their own.

I mean the unofficial merch people literally have no legal right to use her name or image and it’s all actually illegal and she could easily sue them to stop. So if she just gets an idea from their illicit activities I would hardly call that the more egregious of the activities. She has the right to sell her own image and name. They do not.

You are right.

But like the street vendor bootleg merch is famously **** 😂

Its embarrasing to copy them.

Counter point: Katy Perry's net worth is nearly half a billion dollars, who actually cares if someone "steals" from her :icant:

She clearly doesn't, otherwise she'd take legal action against the people selling knockoff tees.

Those people are just trying to make a living and they're giving concert goers an affordable option. Sure, they don't have the legal right to Katy's image, but again...who cares :enigma:

And yeah, Katy's entitled to lifting the design 'cause it's her name.

Nobody's in the wrong here imo...other than whatever psychopath decided to charge SIXTY FIVE F*CKING DOLLARS for a T-SHIRT :rip:

I'll write "Kety Pur" in f*cking sharpie on a blank tee from the dollar store before I pay that much. Or I'll just pop outside and get a nearly identical shirt for a sixth of the price :laughga:

Well, if she's using AI to make her merch then she's stealing it from somebody :river:

Idk, you find some good stuff out there sometimes and even if it's a little janky at least it's only $10 rather than $60 :ladyhaha:
