I genuinely think a critical mass of the general public has largely realized that homophobia is stupid and has very little appetite for the right wing propaganda and that the increased online visibility of homophobia is just a very vocal plurality/minority of people who feel emboldened by Musk/Trump/Tate etc. I’m not taking acceptance for granted, but I genuinely also think the societal/cultural foundation for it is stronger than some of y’all think. These people are dismantling democratic norms and even the concept of truth before our very eyes. The freedoms we have enjoyed in our lifetimes WILL be rolled back as soon as the economic and social hierarchies crystallize into a thoroughly uncontested system. Before we know it, people like us can be rounded up and killed. (Outsiders, LGBT, liberal, socialist, feminist, any religion that isn’t a regime’s preferred version of Christianity, etc.) We MUST be more politically engaged to avoid this dystopian future.
