Everyone being unique makes us all exactly the same.

That’s why I argue that there are people who I call “NPCs” and then there are “Main Characters”.

Gaga is a main character, Queer people in general are the main characters.

Have yall never heard of Rita Ora? She is doing things no other artist in the industry has done before, ever.

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

From my perspective as an artist, I often wonder: now that everyone seems to be “special,” with carefully curated aesthetics and bold self-expression, are we truly original? Are we really being ourselves, or are we just shaping our image to attract attention? Sometimes it feels like uniqueness has become a performance, a trend, a new standard we’re all expected to follow. What once felt like rebellion now feels like routine, a loop of trying to stand out, only to blend into a crowd doing the exact same thing.

Maybe the real question is: who are we when no one’s watching? :trollga:

The Cher - Madonna - Lady Gaga or whomever streak is quite over.

There won’t be “a new Lady Gaga” for many many decades to come. The “closest” we’ve gotten to someone similar was Chappell, and we can all agree she does not have and will never have the impact nor the flawless versatility Lady Gaga has.

Sorry, @lastpopicon is really right at the end of the day (is night) :gaysia:

she has an amazing voice

she has the vision that barely any pop stars have

and ALSO you can tell shes genuinely a nice person, theres so many "fake nice" celebs out there

but gaga actually seems kind to her core.

That's why we have to enjoy her presence in a same time loop.

She really is one of a kind and the moment is now.

She’s also, from what everyone in the industry says, very obviously an incredibly kind and gracious person to work with and seemingly hasn’t faltered in that the bigger she’s gotten. So many people have spoken about how down to earth she is, just the other day there was a Tik Tok circulating of an ex SNL crew member that worked with her some ten plus years ago who raved about how polite she was and how she made everyone feel seen. So many people comparable to Gaga in terms of vision, scope, fame and artistry have reputations of being quite nasty or diva-like. Not our girl.

Well with the way the industry works nowadays, I can’t see another breakthrough artist smashing 17+ years into their career, since the industry likes churning out new hot artists every few years without letting them simmer and cook into icons.

Seems to go in phases sometimes. When I was young I kept hearing about how "artists dont last these days and they come and go like hot cakes" yet the 2008 to 2012 era came and literally pumped out a sh*t load of massive stars in a short time and many of them actually lasted for several years without the stereotypical death after just a couple years

Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Adele, Drake, Ed Sheran, Katy Perry...

Those all came out within like 4 years of eachother. Additionally child stars like Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus broke out into mainstream around that era as well

Supposibly mega stars werent being created like they used to anymore but then we got a sudden wave of massive stars.

I also wanna add Ke$ha in there as well because even though her success era lasted only like 2 years, as no telling how her career (which started massive) could have gone without the unfortunate Dr Luke troubles that essentially killed her career

That’s true, and you also have to keep in mind that back then (2008-ish) labels were still doing “circuits” of pop stars, so they were genuinely trying to churn out popular artists left and right, but only a few stuck around long enough to make a noticeable impact.

Then the streaming age started and now anyone can become a huge star without needing to work their way up, like Addison Rae (which I absolutely love and adore but even I can admit her star only grew because she was a TikTok influencer before she became a pop star).

these times are way different than 15 years ago, and it’s bittersweet because on one hand, anyone can become a  breakthrough artist and become a huge success overnight, but also, there’s no real system in place to keep their stars shining after they debut because their labels are constantly showcasing debut artists instead of properly fostering their current new hit-makers.

And I agree with you on Kesha’s behalf, after Luke prevented her from releasing the rock album she wanted to and forced her to release Warrior (a good album, but not to the degree that her first two albums were commercially) instead, she kinda lost her steam and then the whole lawsuit…..

While I agree about her as an individual, people used to say this about artists like Madonna and Janet back in the day and then along came Beyoncé and Gaga who’ve arguably outdone them in every aspect of their careers.

We won’t have another female popstar with the tenacity of a male rockstar and someone who is so eclectic. But we definitely will get another hard working female popstar who carved her own lane.

And you KNOW Gaga is gonna be massively supportive of anyone who takes her as inspiration (she already has been with people like Sam Smith, Cardi B etc) but we won’t see her true successor for another few decades I think.

not you saying anyone has outdone Madonna in every aspect of their career. :huntyga: No one is anywhere close to outdoing Madonna.

She's had albums across so many different genres, done a Broadway Musical movie, a cabaret-inspired soundtrack, was one of the first to start her own label which she used to create a super controversial album that was all about sex.

She created the blueprint for modern female pop stars (there were none like her before she came along) and was one of the first to candidly talk about female desire, way before it was considered widespread to do so.

She has set so many trends in music and repopularised many genres.

The woman has done everything short of going to the moon. She has broken glass ceiling after glass ceiling, been put on the Vatican's boycott list by the pope himself, and maintained cultural relevance to this day even though she's halfway on her way to being 70.

Let's see how anyone else is doing at 66, but it's completely ludicrous claiming anyone could have outdone a woman who is so far in her own league that there is literally no one who can be compared to her yet.
